Nameless no longer

A city press release is out with official names for two West Seattle parks. No surprises, though — the site known as Junction Plaza will be Junction Plaza Park, and the site in the Delridge/Cottage Grove area is Cottage Grove Park.

Both “Junction Plaza Park” and “Cottage Grove Park” sound like shopping malls or condominium buildings that could be located anywhere in North America. Assuming the other suggestions from the public sounded even more generic, I shudder to think what names the Parks department discarded as runners up.

FYI – Cottage Grove is the official city plat name for the area that the new Cottage Grove Park lies within so the parks chosen name has real historical roots. And no, the chosen name was not my suggestion. I know my limits, and choosing park names is way beyond them.

Please do check out the new Cottage Grove park the next time you are in North Delridge. It is a very pleasant space with a great play structure for the little wee-cheaties.

Sorry, comment time is over.
