This is sad

The Fauntleroy Community Council reports zero coho returning to their creek, for the first time in more than a decade. The watershed watchers cite possible reasons ranging from global warming to tribal fishing.

Jack Lawless’ account mentioned in the page on reasons why is really interesting–there was, in fact, a low oxygen “dead zone” off the Oregon coast for several weeks over the summer/fall.

This is really sad. I lived two blocks from the creek when the fish ladder went in, and I remember how excited we all were to see the coho come back the first time. I hope it’s just an off year, which I hear it has been for some other runs as well.

Sorry, comment time is over.
