AimParticipantAnyone have thoughts on a location for a very nontraditional wedding for not a whole ton of money?
We’ll be getting married on November 1, so it has to be indoors. I would love to have a location that either has great natural light coming in or is dark-but-cozy a la Elliott Bay Brewery or Skylark.
I am NOT doing the big white dress and big white cake. We’re looking to essentially have a party and do a 5-10 min ceremony at the beginning. It’s all about celebrating our commitment, not following “The Rules.”
In addition, the budget is low. We’re making the food so can’t have a place that requires catering! I’d like to find a place that’s only a couple hundred bucks on a Saturday afternoon. Even the local parks are looking for upwards of $1400 for four hours, which seems ridiculous to me.
Given the tone we’re looking for, does anyone have any great ideas? If we had a house we’d do it there, but we don’t. And my parents’ house is way up in Everett (plus too small to hold 50 people). We want to stay local to West Seattle, White Center, SouthPark area.
Ready? Set? Brainstorm!
Thanks in advance!

WSBKeymasterDid Camp Long quote you that kind of price too for their lodge? We had Junior Member’s birthday party there (more than a few years ago) and I don’t recall an afternoon rental being more than a couple hundred dollars … of course, renting the lodge for events was kind of a novel concept back then and maybe it’s become terribly popular ever since. Great space, though, IMO … good luck! TR

AimParticipantI hadn’t called them, as it looked like it was pricey when I looked on the Seattle Parks and Rec site. However, maybe they have different prices than the rest of the parks. I’ll call and find out, as it seems like a lovely location. Thanks for the reminder!

AnonymousInactiveWeb site says it’s only $45 an hour

JanSParticipantI think that would be a great place to have it…especially if there can be a fire in the fireplace on a November day. Nice, warm, cozy..

AimParticipantIn looking further, I think we’re going to take a look at the Hall at Fauntleroy. It’s more than we wanted to spend, but the total cost including catering would probably even out with what we’d spend doing it piecemeal at Camp Long by the time we deal with alcohol and whatnot. And we wouldn’t have to deal with cleanup, which is priceless.
Keep the ideas coming, as we’re still open to anything!
Thanks all!

herongrrrlParticipantCamp Long or the Alki Bathhouse are really pretty reasonably priced. I think the prices do go up if you’re using the space after “normal” business hours and/or serving alcohol. We were married at Camp Long and used the lodge for our reception some years ago, and it was a great place for that.
All the community centers have rooms to rent, some nicer than others. South Park and Southwest have a number of spaces to choose from, and Delridge is newer and pretty nice, too. I attended a wedding a couple years ago at the Tukwila Community Center that was in a very nice space, and that’s not too far afield from WS. There are also places like the VFW hall around that are usually pretty reasonable.
Good luck!

addParticipantThe downstairs room at the Hall is very nice – I just checked the website and it looks like it has been compeltely remodeled. It used to be a small, funky, basement kind of room which had a really nice vibe. The best part is that it opens up to the back patio area, and even in November, with lots of candles and maybe even an outdoor heater, it might be nice to be able to step outside and see the stars. Tuxedos ‘n Tennis Shoes, the folks that run the Hall and do the catering are fantastic and the food is always excellent. Good luck!

JenVMemberAim- I have some friends who were married at the Museum of Flight. From what I hear it was beautiful- and very non-traditional.
Sorry again for standing you guys up! Dinner Friday? I promise we wont nap thru it this time… :)

BonnieParticipantcamp Long would be perfect for what you have in mind. You can have a fire in the fireplace too. Cozy and warm. It is just $45 an hour and you can rent the kitchen too.

beachdrivegirlParticipantNot sure about the prices but have you looked into the Sanctuary at Admiral?

JimmyGMemberWhat about Hokum Hall on 35 Ave SW? I seem to remember you could rent that space, and it doesn’t get much more nontrad than that place.
Also from walking by it all the time I know the Masonic Lodge in the 4700 block of 40th Ave SW has a rental hall.

kiridaParticipantIf you are also looking for nontraditional ideas for the wedding itself, check out offbeatbride.com. Ariel Meadow-Stallings is a Seattle blogging phenom whose own wedding had hula hoops!

celeste17ParticipantNow if you invite all of us WSB your guest list will increase a bit but you know we all know how to party til the sun goes down (or up in this case since it is November).
We have done a couple of weddings at Fauntleroy Church and its pretty inside with the big window and all the greenery in back of the church. I guess this doesn’t really qualify as unusual.

karenParticipantAn often overlooked place is the Highland Park Improvement Club. It’s very reasonably priced.
Also, the log cabin building at White Center Park can be rented but I am not sure if they have activities on the weekend.

AimParticipantKirida – Yup, I’m a member of offbeat bride tribe! It’s the best resource I’ve found so far for thinking outside the box.

AimParticipantThanks again everyone for all the great ideas.

WSMomParticipantAfter bringing soup to our favorite WSBer I peeked in the windows at the Sanctuary. What a beautiful space, and lovely outdoor tables as well. I’m hoping to have an opportunity to get dressed up and be a grown up there someday.

CMPParticipantThis isn’t West Seattle, but a friend of mine rented out the Swedish Cultural Center for a going-away party. It was awhile back, but he had a bartender and probably some apps. It has a rather kitchsy (sp?) vibe (a bit outdated), but the views of Lake Union are great.
My sister was married at the Hall at Fauntleroy. It was really nice and I think it must have been somewhat reasonably priced since she was trying to save money. She provided her own beer, wine and cake, which might have cut down costs even more.

TheVelvetBulldogMemberYoungstown Cultural Center on Delridge has rooms to rent and an on-site kitchen.

jissyParticipantAim– I know Herban Feast just moved out of Admiral down to the old Herban Pottery bldg on 1st Avenue South, SoDo district — I believe the purpose was to have a space AND on-site catering. BJ and staff are amazing and the food always incredible although it might be on the pricey side.
http://www.herbanfeast.com Could be worth checking out.
