TanDLParticipantThis was posted by someone familiar with education on my Facebook page and I thought I would share. Not sure where the bill is at the moment, but these days it pays to be pro-active and start throwing fits quickly if you believe that an educated populace is important:

An assault on us all. Because it all starts with our children…
Our worst fears are coming true. House Bill 610 makes some large changes. Inform yourselves.
This bill will effectively start the school voucher system to be used by children ages 5-17, and starts the defunding process of public schools.
In addition the bill will eliminate the Elementary and Education Act of 1965, which is the nation’s educational law and provides equal opportunity in education.
It would repeal ESSA (Every Students Succeeds Act):
ESSA is a big comprehensive program that covers programs for struggling learners, AP classes, ESL classes, classes for minorities such as Native Americans, Rural Education, Education for the Homeless, School Safety (Gun-Free schools), Monitoring and Compliance and Federal Accountability Programs.
The Bill also abolishes the Nutritional Act of 2012 (No Hungry Kids Act) which provides nutritional standards in school breakfast and lunch.
The bill has no wording whatsoever protecting SN kids, no mention of IDEA and FAPE.
Some things ESSA does for Children with Disabilities
-Ensures access to the general education curriculum.
-Ensures access to accommodations on assessments.
-Ensures concepts of Universal Design for Learning
-Includes provisions that require local education agencies to provide evidence-based
interventions in schools with consistently underperforming subgroups.
-Requires states in Title I plans to address how they will improve conditions for learning including reducing incidents of bullying and harassment in schools, overuse of discipline practices and reduce the use of aversive behavioral interventions (such as restraints and seclusion).

In fact not only don’t you get a choice but we will fight against you getting a choice to free your children from the progressive, generational cycle of illiteracy. Yet the Progressives ONLY answer to this decades long destruction of our education system is .. yup.. You guessed it ” More Money. ” That’s it. No other solutions.
Liberals pretend to care to make their shallow souls feel good for the moment but the real reason is Control. Yes, Control of the system and control of the teachers unions to make sure that our kids stay in the Liberal indoctrination institutions.
Seriously, If you didn’t know the statistics or the situation the Liberal argument could possibly pass as Giving a Crap. A Very slight “crap ” but it does make it sound like they care. But, once you present the statistics and ” Facts ” ( Liberals Hate that evil word… Facts ! ) then the argument against that African American woman wanting to give her next generation a chance in this life by sending her sons or daughters to schools with graduation rates above ( 10 – 20% ) FAILS COMPLETELY !How about these SAD statistics. Get ready because the Liberal slime balls are going to whip out the age old argument of ” Republicans are racist because they won’t give our failing system even more money ! ”
* US spends MORE per student than ANY other country in the World yet ranks 17th – 20th.
* US ranks ( # 24 ) in the world in Literacy. ( Shameful ! )
* US ranks 18th in reading
* Some Graduation rates in the inner city schools in the single digits ! ]
But, even when they ” Graduate ” they aren’t proficient in anything.These sad and pathetic statistics go on and on and our Liberal controlled crime, poverty and drug infested inner city schools educational statistics are so low that many 3rd world countries would be ashamed. But, the rich white Liberal schools are used to balance out these statistics to justify keeping the system exactly the same. In fact, ONLY in our education system and some Communist countries is ” Tenure ” used. Yes, ” Tenure ” where an employee ( ie.. teacher in this case ) CANNOT be fired no matter how bad of a job they do. Imagine that in any other profession ? Imagine the Liberal outrage if some Conservative institution granted ” Tenure ‘ to an a continuously incompetent employee ?
My friend went to a school in inner city Los Angeles that last year had a graduation rate of ( 12% ). YES.. that was ( 12 % )
Yup. Liberals care so much that if ( 200 ) un-armed Black men are killed every year by the evil White cops then it is one progressive ” March of outrage” after another. But when millions are trapped in our inner city crap schools and want to escape? Want a choice ? NO WAY ! In fact. they fight to keep them there.Yup.. Vote Democrat ! All they need is just a little more money !

anonymeParticipantThe voucher system is not only unconstitutional, it is unworkable. Educational philosophies aside, schools must function as brick and mortar ‘businesses’, with fairly long-term planning required in terms of staffing, maintenance, supplies, etc.,etc. A voucher system would create utter chaos, as it would be difficult or impossible to anticipate voucher use. Mark my words, private corporations such as Summit (and others) are ready to step in and start raking in the profits in the form of taxpayer dollars – just as Wall Street did a few years ago and is poised to do again.
So,yes – this could be the end of public education. Wasn’t that the plan all along? I’d like to see DeVos tarred, feathered, and dragged from a yacht, but….patience.

25 African Americans murdered in Chicago on july 4th weekend and not one news report, no protests, no rallies, no Liberal nothing. Organize the marches, make huge banners and get the paid protestors to bring matches and cans of gasoline. Oh.. and don’t forget them to pretend to give a crap this time too.
Trump has been Amazing ! AJPParticipantI think vouchers sound great! If I’m already paying $20K/year for my kid to go to Bush school, that means I’ll get voucher from the government (tax payers) to cover $5000 of my costs. Never mind all the other kids who still can’t afford the extra $15K. Discount for me, wahoo!
I think we should extend it to parks too. I’m tired of going to the public park and finding trash, or just trashy people, hanging out there. I’d like my tax money to go to a voucher system instead. I won’t use the public parks, I’ll just take my park voucher to the local country club and put the tax payer’s money there. Let’s privatize libraries, too. Homeless people in the library–ew! Private library with my wealthy friends–yay! Can I use a voucher for my private fire and police departments too? Let’s do sewer systems!

redblackParticipant“school choice” is dog-whistle for for-profit education, which is pretty unamerican, in my opinion.
we are a nation, and we are supposed to be born equally. we should, therefore, all be guaranteed a basic, universal education that competes with all other industrialized nations and ensures that our young adults understand the intrinsic workings of our universe by the age of 18 – regardless of socioeconomic status.
the voucher and for-profit models seem to be thinly-veiled job recruitment programs for those who can afford them.
furthermore, william seems to be frightened and paranoid. i don’t believe that fear is a good foundation for opinions on sociopolitical issues.
we, as a nation, are better than that.

Yes, The Great State of New York announced that they would be dropping the requirement for their TEACHERS to pass a Literacy test. Yes, you heard me right. Their “TEACHERS” to take and I am assuming to pass a LITERACY test because a disproportionate amount of Non-White teachers couldn’t pass the Literacy test.
ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME !
Teachers not being able to pass a Literacy test ? Only in the sick liberal mind could that possibly make any sense. ??So, rather than require TEACHERS to be LITERATE ( I can’t believe I have to say this ! ) and meet some basic standards of education before they attempt to teach our children which will provide the basic foundations for their future and the future of our society. Liberals will gladly sacrifice our childrens futures by dropping the LITERACY requirements. Yes, drop the LITERACY requirements ( I still can’t believe I am saying this ) for teachers rather than accept the fact that for some reason minority teaching applicants might need to work on and refine their basic LITERACY education before they teach our kids. TRUE NEGLECTFUL INSANITY !

PangolinPieParticipantFirst, I find it ironic (and sad) that someone who seems to be unaware of how punctuation and capital letters are used in the English language is so wound up about literacy. Oh, sorry; that’s LITERACY.
Second, while I agree that teachers should be chosen from the most literate folks available, this test is one of four assessments “…introduced in the 2013-2014 school year as part of an effort to raise the level of elementary and secondary school teaching in the state.”*
And the finding that “just 46 percent of Hispanic test takers and 41 percent of black test takers passed it on the first try, compared with 64 percent of white candidates”* is interesting. Your assumption is that the minorities who weren’t able to pass it can blame their education. That’s certainly one possibility, but isn’t it also at least a possibility that there are cultural biases in the test? And maybe rather than your all-caps, semi-literate freak-out, it might just be worth asking that question? Cultural bias in institutionalized testing is not a new or unknown thing.
Additionally, I’m pretty darned sure that Trump’s kids all went to private school as well.
Finally, williamf64: you are annoying and weird. I think you might want to seek help from a qualified therapist. Or at the very least try some meditation practices that could help you calm the f— down.
