Coyote alert: Lincoln Park

Ted sent this to WSB last weekend and we missed the chance to post it then, but he advises us he’s still hearing the howls, so it’s not too late to issue the alert. Not to evoke anti-coyote hysteria – just a reminder to be careful:

Just wanted to let you know – saw a brazen Coyote in Lincoln Park during the day on Sat. We had our dog on a leash but another couple that was approx 100 ft away from us did not. No sooner did we pass the couple but we saw what appeared to be a very alert and scoping Coyote. I am thinking he may have been checking out the little lap dog the couple had off-leash. We were on an interior trail – near the chin-up bars. Please keep the parks (and coyotes) safe – keep your dogs on a leash !!

Nature’s reminder Lincoln Park is NOT an off-leash dog park. ;)

No kidding! Always keep your dogs on a leash even if you think they’re well behaved. Remember, not everyone likes dogs.

I can deal with a coyote – but does anyone know if the creep who attacked the woman jogger in Lincoln Park in November was caught? Hopefully, the coyote made mincemeat pie of him.

While down at the SW Precinct the other day, we asked Lt. Paulsen about that – he didn’t have anything new to report.

The sounds/cries of what I assumed to be a coyote woke all 3 of my dogs and myself around 5:30 a.m. and continued until 6:00 a.m. I have lived in WS for 5 years and this is the 3rd time I have heard this type of animal. I also have noticed a fai amount of flyers posted in the neighborhood over the years of cats missing.Last year my neighbors cat went missing never to be seen again..
Fair warning to all of the small pet owners that live around the Delridge area from the 4700 block SW and surrounding areas.
I found this link that shares the sounds of what Coyotes sound like. The cries I heard where that of greeting or challenge.

A couple of weeks ago a coyote tore open our trash, dragged the entire bag (est. 25 lbs) 30 feet and drag smaller bits of trash almost 100 feet and it crossed neighbor yard and deck. The animal returned repeatedly after I attempted to chase it away. It was less than 20 feet away at the time. We hear them howling almost every day. We have had numerous coyote sightings in our yard within the past three years. Garbage has been raided more than once. Many cat’s are missing from this area, including 2 from this family this year, and three in total. Sadly, we had taken in some strays over the years and they were outside cats. No more though — they are simply coyote food in our neighborhood. This is in the area south of 35th at Roxbury.

I wonder if the coyotes can help control the raccoon population. Either coyotes or raccoons are good reasons to keep cats indoors and dogs on leashes.

I live across from the park. What concerns me way more than coyotes are the gunshots I hear every now and then at night.

We saw 2 healthy-looking adult coyotes in our backyard yesterday at 3:30 in the afternoon. We live near 106th and Marine View Dr.

My wife and I just saw a coyote cross the street in front of Fauntleroy Park. He/she was walking up from the YMCA, walked across Barton, and into the trailhead at the park. Heads up! Keep those dogs on leashes Fauntleroy park dog people. You know who you are. ;) Peace.
