GRATITUDE: Message from bicyclist injured in Delridge crash

Back on Monday, we mentioned a collision on Delridge that sent a bicyclist to the hospital. Today, she e-mailed to ask if we would share this:

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who came to my assistance on Monday.

I am the bicyclist that got hit at Delridge and Willow. It was a very scary situation made much better by the bystanders and first responders that came to my aid. It was incredibly kind of the complete strangers who brought blankets and jackets out to keep the rain off me. And special thanks to one woman who came over to check on me and helped keep me calm. And of course, all the first responders were unbelievably professional and kind. Just wanted everyone to know how much it meant to me.

Glad you are ok and thanks for sharing this letter about those who helped out, standard procedure hopefully when one human is injured and a another able and available to give assitance.

Glad that is was not any worse, and that you had help right away.  A supportive community saves lives and makes life worth living.

Drivers, please take care to stop and look both ways before crossing a sidewalk or bike lane when turning into or out of driveways, especially if going through a gap in oncoming traffic.

Humans have the right to transport themselves without having to be injured or harmed, even if they are on bicycles.

I’m glad Kristen is ok, but she should have never been hit in the first place. Bicyclists should have an expectation that they will be able to travel, harm free, on any city road.

Sorry, comment time is over.
