Also today: Girl Scout Cookie sales continue, including drive-/ride-up booth

One more “happening today” – third day of this year’s Girl Scout Cookie sales. This might be the only “cookie booth” of this type in our area:

The photo is from Lisa, who explains:

West Seattle Hi-Yu Junior Court Princess Stephanie and her Girl Scout Troop 42553 will be having a Girl Scout Cookie Drive-Thru at the Les Schwab Tire Center (3801 SW Alaska) from 11 am-3 pm. You don’t even have to get out of your car! We accept all major credit cards, cash, and checks!

Looking for someplace closer? The locations closest to zip code 98106 are here; 98116, here; 98126, here; 98136, here; 98146, here. This year’s seven cookie varieties are shown here. Sales continue through March 20th (two weeks from today).

I know that this is not going to be a popular opinion, but the density of cookie tables is getting a little too high. Yesterday morning while running a ten-minute walking errand I had to politely turn down groups at True Value, Safeway, and two streetside tables on California. I’m not looking forward to constantly apologizing for not buying cookies over the next week or so.

I don’t know how they’re distributed/assigned, but having been a Girl Scout long, long ago (and a Camp Fire Girl for that matter), it’s great if you say “No, thank you” (or in our case, after buying a box in the season, we say “Already have some; thanks”) BUT I think they get it if you don’t say anything. If you do want to express your macro view of the density, maybe let the regional org know – they have a web form and an e-mail address here http://www.girlscoutsww.org/en/about-girl-scouts/contact-us.html – TR

I use the cookie sales as an opportunity to donate to the Girl Scouts and limit my consumption to 2 boxes a year. YOu don’t have to actually buy or eat the cookies.

Just politely say ‘No Thank You’ or ‘I already bought’ if you don’t want cookies.

I was a Girl Scout *many* years ago. Admire the drive-thru idea. Clever businesswomen!! They will be (or already are) great leaders!

But oh man, the calories! Yikes! Just 2 Samoa cookies (my favorite)= 140 calories. Hmm, 1st ingredient: sugar. 2nd ingredient: “partially hydrogenated palm kernel oil and/or …”. 5 grams saturated fat, 25% of DV!!http://www.littlebrowniebakers.com/products/samoas/

Maybe it’s time for the Girl Scouts to consider healthier recipes or products to sell. Might align better with the values they are trying to teach young women??? But I know…they’re yummy! :-)

Sorry, comment time is over.
