Update: Two juvenile victims in two pedestrian/car collisions, Delridge/Orchard and 15th/Roxbury

3:45 PM: An incident reported to involve a pedestrian has a police/fire callout at Delridge/Orchard, and we’re told northbound lanes are blocked, with traffic backing up. More to come.

3:58 PM: Our crew at the scene reports the road is now fully open and police are clearing out. A private ambulance was leaving. That suggests the victim’s injuries were not major. We’re trying to find out more.

4:03 PM: Police tell us at the scene that the victim was a juvenile who suffered a broken leg. And they confirmed an earlier incident we had been checking on – 15th and Roxbury, less than an hour ago, in which a juvenile pedestrian also suffered a broken leg. Both scenes are now clear.

I believe it is a student. I saw another student on te side of the road in tears. I hope I’m wrong. ):

Thanks, Megan. Always hard to get details on the scene but our crew will be there shortly to find out what they can.

I was the driver in the 15tg/Roxbury accident. It was not a juvenile. It was an older man that tried to cross Roxbury by cutting thru cars against the light (not in the crosswalk). Unfortunately he did not see me coming in the turn lane and there was no way I could stop when he appeared in front of my car. I feel for the guy, but this was a mistake of the pedestrian; not a speeding driver. It pays for all to take care; not just the drivers.

Actually the 15th/Roxbury pedestrian was an older man trying to cross against the light and not in the crosswalk. He darted around another car and right in front of my car as I approached the intersection in the left turn lane. I was going about 15 mph, but had the right of way since the arrow was changing from green to flashing yellow. So it’s not just speeding drivers. I’m sorry this guy for hurt, but there was nothing I could do to avoid him. Crazy place to try to jaywalk. Pedestrians need to take care also.

D-Mom, I was 2nd car back in the lane next to you when it happened. Traffic was too bad for me to stop. If you need a witness, give me some contact info. There was absolutely nothing you could have done to prevent that.

Thanks CM! Much appreciated. But the guy was honest about cutting thru traffic against the light. Police were really nice and told me it was not my fault, so probably not needed. I’ll keep it in mind though.

Sorry, comment time is over.
