West Seattle Crime Watch: Stolen stroller; where the burglars are

In this West Seattle Crime Watch roundup: First, we mentioned this on our partner site White Center Now last night, but in case the stolen stroller turns up on this side of the line:

(Saturday night) around 7:15-7:30 pm, our family was eating at Proletariat Pizza in White Center. Our orange and brown BOB single stroller was stolen. Our family is sad, as we use it every day. If found please return to Proletariat Pizza; they know how to contact us.

Next – Anne e-mailed this report last night:

Our neighbors on 8300 block of 39th ave SW were broken into (Friday). Their computers were stolen, hence my post as their neighbor. Police were called and fingerprints were taken. It was during daylight hours. We must all be aware of our surroundings. These break-ins are happening much too frequently.

According to the police-reports map – screen grab at left – that’s one of eight West Seattle burglaries in the past week, through yesterday (the “2” icon denotes a location when the burglary was one of two crimes). That’s West Seattle’s general average (you’ll hear more about crime trends in a story coming up here later today). The other seven burglary locations you see on the map are:

4500 block West Marginal Way SW (Sunday 9/15)

8500 block 37th SW (Sunday 9/15)

8600 block 17th SW (Monday 9/17)

7900 block 32nd SW (Tuesday 9/18)

400 block SW Cloverdale (Thursday 9/19)

6700 block 12th SW (Friday 9/20)

3900 block SW 107th (Friday 9/20)

One more reader report: And Deborah sent this short report: “Car burglary Jack Block Park, Thurs. 3:30 pm, of a teal GMC truck. Any witnesses?” (If so, call 911.)

PREVENTING CRIME: Our area’s next crime-prevention meetings are the West Seattle Block Watch Captains’ Network (Tuesday, 6:30 pm, Southwest Precinct) with a presentation about Smart911, and Thursday’s special Fauntleroy Community Association-organized crime-prevention meeting, 6:30 pm ice-cream social, 7 pm meeting (as previewed here), at The Hall at Fauntleroy.

I was just going to donate my blue/grey Bob. I would love for it to go to the family, I used mine daily for 5+ years. I will call the pizza place, but any contact info would be great!!

I just saw the brown and orange BOB stroller – with a couple of suspicious looking folks. I called the emergency line and got transferred a few times until I was able to file a report. The operator said someone would go check it out, but I am sure it is not a high priority.
They were just South of the Roxbury Safeway, on the street that runs between Safeway and Roxbury Lanes. They had a blue duffel bag in the stroller, no kids with them, and another bag. One male, one female, both about 5’10” or so, dark hair, Caucasian and in dark sweat suits. The woman’s sweat suit was also red. They were maybe mid-late 20’s but it was hard to get a good look at their faces as they went the other way when they saw I was checking them out.
I really hope you get your stroller back!

FOUND! Took a drive tonight and found it in the parking lot of the Roxbury Safeway.
Thanks Megan and Alyssa (who saw it on WSB facebook, and had already contacted us to offer a loaner stroller, then saw it on her evening walk). We appreciate both of you for being alert and taking the time to call the police.
Thanks to Tracy at WSB for the personal attention, the quick postings certainly helped lead to its recovery.
Thanks to Sandal40 for the very generous offer! Wow. I would be contacting you tonight were it not so easy to get back.

Glad to hear it! Yay for community.

Not sure this is the appropriate forum, but I’m due with my first baby in Dec and would love a BOB stroller that someone isn’t using anymore!

Someone at work gave me one, but because it’s older (2007) they don’t make the car seat adapter for my car seat (Chicco Keyfit 30). If anyone wants to get rid of their newer one that I can buy an adapter for, I’d be happy to donate the one I have to another family in need.

Aime – mine is a 2007. I would check out Craigslist. Good luck in your search.

You are welcome to post in the WSB Forums – if you don’t have a log-in (required there), e-mail us when you have registered if your password doesn’t arrive quickly, we are dealing with a few glitches at the moment, but it gets thousands of pageviews daily and someone just might have one – https://westseattleblog.com/forum – Tracy

Looks like there have been a cluster of break ins in the 35th/Trenton (4-5 blocks in each direction) vicinity over the last month. We were borken into on 9/1/13 at 31st and Cloverdale, and the police got good prints and we have serial numbers for everything that was taken.

How on earth do I go about finding out who’s assigned to the case? I looked at the online crime report and it looks like they closed it – unless I’m not understanding some verbiage correctly, which is possible. Anyone know? I’m far from a crime expert.

    • WSB September 23, 2013 (12:25 pm)

The online crime reports for these kinds of things often say “inactive,” which doesn’t mean that discovery of evidence wouldn’t reopen it, etc. But they should have left you a card with a phone number and case #.

I wish more of us were armed (i.e. Seattle was so gun paranoid). It would make the bad guys think twice.

Sorry, comment time is over.
