West Seattle Crime Watch: Police search for armed robber

4:17 PM: Police are searching right now for someone reported to have held up a business in the strip mall on the northeast corner of 35th and Roxbury. The robber is described in scanner traffic as black, male, about 25 years old, red bandana over his face, 6 feet tall, slender, black beanie, dark puffy jacket. He was reported to be armed with a 9-mm handgun. He was last seen headed northbound on 35th. The address given for the robbery is the smoke shop at 9650 35th; we have a crew en route.

4:52 PM: Adding a photo. Not much additional information at the scene – police confirmed Discount Smoke and Beverage is the store that was robbed; they got conflicting reports about which way the robber was seen running, so they’re searching in all directions. They were also still working to find out what the robber got away with. No injuries reported.

As it says in the story, Discount Smoke and Beverage was the store that was robbed; that’s two doors away from the dispensary. I checked with the precinct early this morning; no one arrested. – TR

I’m truly amazed at the people who ask dumb questions that are already answered on the post. Do you people even read the news? Do you need someone to read them for you and explain them? I have to commend WSB on your patience. If it were me, I wouldn’t be so nice with the reply.

QQMAN you must be very proud of yourself. Comment section is not the news it’s a place where guys like you and I pretend we are smarter than everyone else. thanks WSB. No other outlet is reporting an armed robbery blocks from elementary school and 30 minutes after school was released.

Please be kind to each other, folks. While true, the comment section is not “the news” itself, it is often – at least here on WSB, thanks to a collaborative community – where new information is revealed, thanks to witnesses, people directly involved, etc. I’m sorry to hear nobody else covered this – some organizations are relatively reliant on news releases, and SPD did not issue one about this – their media department deals with the entire city, and there were also a couple incidents happening outside WS at the time, so our coverage came from catching it on the scanner and then going to the scene in person. Kevin, not that it’s much consolation because a robbery is a major crime any time and place, yesterday was a holiday so school wasn’t in session. But I doubt the robber would have cared if it was, and Roxhill indeed is just a few blocks east. A daytime armed robbery is pretty brazen. – TR
