WestSeattle1MemberHow does a person go about posting services offered on the Blog? I am not a ‘business’, just a person looking to suppliment my income. I am not trying to sneak an ad in here, I just genuinely would like to target West Seattle specifically. Hope not to step on toes… please delete my comment if appropriate.
Thank you

SueParticipantWestSeattle1, this is from the post with rules related to “advertising”:
“If you are a business or serviceperson you CAN do any of the following here in the WSB Forums, absolutely free of charge:
-Respond to a request for recommendations in your line of work, provided you identify yourself (no recommending a business without saying it’s yours or you’re related to it!).
-Post a job opening in the West Seattle Jobs Offered section
-Post about a deal, sale, or free offer in the Freebies, Deals, Sales section (bonafide major price cuts on merchandise/services, not just consultations – we reserve the right to evaluate whether a deal posting crosses the line to “free ad”).
You cannot just open a topic soliciting customers or posting a “rave” about your own business.
<some text deleted>
Added 5/30/2010 for clarification: Freebies/deals/sales that you want to post here must be available to everyone – no prequalification such as “mention you read it on WSB” or “offering this if you (whatever).””
And if in doubt, I’ve run things by TR (editor@westseattleblog.com) via email to ask if it’s okay to post something in particular, when I wasn’t sure how close it was to “advertising.”

WSBKeymasterHi there, thanks for asking.
If someone posts a request for recommendations for someone offering whatever (legal) services you offer, you are welcome to reply as long as you disclose you’re talking about yourself. Otherwise, we do not have “services offered,” just “help wanted.”
We offer rock-bottom-cheap advertising (considering the # of people it reaches and the fact the prices have been the same for five years) for those who are selling services or products. And if you are trying to make money with any kind of service, you ARE a business.
Just trying to have and enforce civility rules for the forum (and rest of the site) is challenging enough; trying to draw up rules such as “well, you can post ‘services offered’ IF you only make X per year or charge X per service, but otherwise …” would just not work.
Sorry bout that & good luck … TR

WestSeattle1MemberThanks for the copy/paste Sue. I read that before posting. It unfortunatley doesn’t answer my question though…
* I get that I can respond to a request. There aren’t any that match my criteria.
* I am not offering a job opening… quite the contrary.
* I am not looking to barter or trade.
I would simply like to be connected with people in my local area who may be in need of the services I provide on a one-time or as needed basis.
I would buy advertising space here (happily!) but I do not have a business.
I was wondering if there is any forum to offer services (not unlike craigslist) to the good people of West Seattle.
