LisaParticipantDoes anyone know how to get rid of a ‘DirectTV’ dish? I just moved into an apartment where someone was kind enough to leave their eyesore on the balcony :( I called DTV and they said it’s the responsibility of the ‘owner’ (who is gone? of course).
The building manager says it’s ‘Against OSHA Regulations’ for him to work over X # of feet off the ground (though I doubt it would matter if it was planted IN the ground ;)
I did a google search and see I could hire a company to remove it for the mere sum of $149… Not much chance of that!
Anyone have any experience / ideas ???
TY!!

anonymeParticipantIt may be against OSHA regulation for the manager to remove the dish (although questionable) but it seems like it would be the landlord’s responsibility to remove all items belonging to a former tenant before a new one takes occupancy. If he can’t do it, he should hire someone else. As things stand, you do not have access to an area that you are paying rent for (the balcony). Sure sounds like both of these entities are jerking you around. Maybe you should advertise the dish on Craig’s List…

JanSParticipantI was going to suggest try to sell it, make it worth your while to get rid of it. I have Directv, and I always assumed it was my responsibility to remove it if I move…

BonnieParticipantWe had a few old Dishes and there was a guy who posted on the West Seattle Giving Tree (on facebook) that he would take them. Came and got them, although they were already taken down. I can try to get his info.

JanSParticipantBonnie…I think you might mean Danny Munoz?

LisaParticipantThanks for the feedback everyone. I’ll google Danny Munoz!
I actually wrangled it off the outer side of my third storey balcony ;) I was thinking there would be a ‘thud’ to the ground if it turned out to be too heavy to hold onto after I got the last bolt off ;)
I don’t think anyone would ‘buy’ it, from what I understand, they ‘give’ them to customers?! Hopefully I’ll be able to get someone to pick it up!

BonnieParticipantYes, that is who I am thinking of.

Barry2012ParticipantHi Lisa,
Any luck with Danny Munoz? I wasn’t able to find him but we have 3 dishes from a home we just purchases (very avid sports person was the previous owner). I have no idea what to do with these things…let me know if you were able to find him. Thanks all!

LisaParticipantNo luck w googling Danny Munoz :| I’m still struggling with how to handle this (though I assure you I know it’s MY struggle). I’d like to ask my apt manager where he’d like me to put this… but I don’t know there will be a good answer?

SueParticipantLisa, have you tried calling Seattle Public Utilities and asking them? I’m not sure if it’s something that comes under e-recycling or garbage, but they might be able to direct you to someone who has ideas on how to get rid of it.

Barry2012ParticipantHi Lisa,
We put our dishes on craigslist and they were picked up the same day-try that! :)

miwsParticipantLisa, if you still would like to contact Danny, I “found” him, and when I mentioned your situation, he replied:
sure can recycle all metal and metal items just call me 206 453 9006

LisaParticipantThank you all for your replies!
Barry 2012 … I’m glad that worked out for you! I went the path of ease and put the dish in the common laundry room. Called the building manager (I wonder if he visits this blog?) and let him know where I put it. Been there a few days now… I would not be surprised if it stays there… At least I don’t have to look at it every day!! ;)
