RebeccaMemberHi, I’m looking for a reputable place in West Seattle who can frame my grandpa’s World War II medals and stripes. I also have a newspaper clipping about him from 1945 that I’d like to incorporate as well. Does anyone have any suggestions?
It’s a special project for my grandmother, so I need to be extra careful, i.e find a business that would be respectful and caring about the project. I think everything should also be cleaned before being mounted, but I don’t know how to clean military stuff. Probably should be done professionally.
I’d really appreciate your advice. Maybe this isn’t exactly a WS thing, but I’d like to have it done locally. Thank you!!

celeste17ParticipantI like Stephanie at Artistic Framer on California Ave between Juneau and Findlay.
I have take several things to her and she has always treated them with respect and care. The other place I like is U Frame It on California Ave SW (Near the Swinery). I took some patches I got off of Ebay and he framed them and they looked great.

KayzelMemberI would be very happy to help you — one of my specialties is framing family mementos. I have been in business for 30 years, relocated to W. Seattle in 2008, and am available by appointment. Please contact me through my web site, http://www.kayroodframer.com

JasperbluParticipantRebecca,
.
I don’t know about getting them cleaned/restored, but for framing them w/ archival level care, I can personally highly recommend Courtney at Wallflower. She specializes in preservation framing & making sure your art, or special item is sealed properly and preserved for EONS to come. They’re located in the Mural building on 42nd Ave SW across from Jefferson Sq.
.
I’ve had several dozen things framed by Wallflower over the past year, and while she’s not cheap, she does an exceptional job.
.
My father was a WWII vet too, and I have his medals, corporal stripes, burial flag, etc. that I’ve often thought of framing. What a wonderful idea! Good luck, whatever you do decide on doing.
