WSBKeymasterGot this from Catholic Community Services, one of many agencies we’ve invited to share volunteering opportunities …
>>>Love to Organize? A Neighbor Needs Your Help
A disabled man living in the High Point area in West Seattle would love some help
and direction getting his apartment organized. He says he never learned to be
effective in organizing or cleaning, and because of his mental illness disability,
he has trouble getting started and making organizing decisions. He’d love a
volunteer to help him go through some of his belongings and make decisions about how
to organize, and to teach him how to do some simple chores like cleaning the floors,
wiping the kitchen counters, and other tasks that are simple to some but difficult
for him. He’s shy but ready for a helper friend to visit once or twice a month. He
very much would like to get his belongings organized so that he has more space to
cook and enjoy his apartment. He’s a little nervous about the idea of decluttering
but is extremely open to the idea. He is proud that he’s able to do volunteer office
work with a local non-profit, but he just mainly feels overwhelmed and needs a
little motivational assistance at home.
Volunteering is good for you. It lowers stress, raises self esteem, and makes a huge
difference in the world.
Benefits:
Helping others lowers stress
Helping others raises self esteem
Helping others makes a huge difference in the world
If you drive while volunteering, we compensate for mileage and parking
We provide insurance while volunteering
Bottom line…a few hours is all it takes to make a difference in this senior’s life
Volunteer Chore Services, a program of Catholic Community Services, is committed to
helping low-income elders and adults disabilities remain living independently in
their own homes through a network of caring community members, individuals like
yourself. There is a huge need for a little extra help all over Seattle, but
especially in West Seattle.
Due to the vulnerable nature of our clients, volunteers must complete a registration
packet, provide three personal references, pass a background check, and attend an
orientation.
