happywalkerParticipantI can highly recommend Emerald Tree service. They were just here a few weeks ago did a beautiful job of thinning and trimming my 75 ft Black Locust. That was the third time I have used them. The clean up was pretty great too. You couldn’t even tell that they were there. I have one beautiful tree.

Do not go with a Chuck-With-A-Truck, I’ll Git’ ‘Er Done outfit unless you want the likelihood of having all kinds of headaches and potential liabilities.

anonymeParticipantMike is right on with his suggestion that you not just hire anyone who claims to be a “tree expert”.
Mark Harmon is awesome, but busy – and expensive. For pruning or diagnosis, I’d say spend the money. For removal, the important thing is that the company be licensed and bonded so that people and property are protected.
There are a couple of West Seattle based (?)arborists that come to mind, although I’m not sure if their rates are lower than Mark’s. They are Jason Mallett, Kathy Holzer (Out on a Limb) and Blooma Tree Experts.
An even more important question might be, does the tree REALLY need removal? Seattle’s urban tree cover has been decimated in the last 20 years. Beautiful, mature trees are being felled, often unnecessarily. Sometimes a good pruning or analysis by an arborist can solve issues and prevent the premature demise of a valuable asset.

Michael WaldoParticipantWhen we bought our house, our local real estate agent recommended Neal Baker of Arborists NW.
They took down two large trees and thinned three others and helped identify other tress and shrubs for us. arboristsNW.com or 206-779-2579.

The Velvet BulldogParticipantTalk to Rodger at Apical Tree Services: (206) 679-8253. He took down the two Ash trees growing into the power lines on my parking strip and ground the stumps. He chipped my trees as well as a big piece of cedar that had fallen in my neighbor’s yard and let me have the chips, which I’m now using as mulch on the parking strip. Apical Tree Services is recommended by Plant Amnesty and participates in their Arbor Tree pro bono tree-pruning events.
