JoBParticipantthursday
from 2 to 4 PM
at Cafe Rosella in White Center
this is a solution oriented drop-in discussion group … not a class… so we will be talking about what matters to you.
I will be there with my fms/cfs book to see who drops by. I am the middle aged woman with platinum.. ok grey :) hair still highlighted with strawberry blond, comfortable clothes and comfortable shoes:)
Anyone dealing with the annoyances of chronic pain, fatigue and their accompanying symptoms is welcome to join us.
If you want to talk first, you can reach me at joanne@brayden.org.

JoBParticipantthursday July 2…

July 3, 2009 at 4:52 am #671154
JoBParticipanti confess.. i left a half hour early. Cafe Rosella was closed today and it was too warm in the sun in front of the cafe…
i will be there next thursday.

JoBParticipantTime flies … and tomorrow (thursday 7/8) there will be another informal support group meeting at
Cafe Rozella
from 2 to 4 PM.
I will be there with my book… likely in a jean skirt, sandals and a light sweater of some kind…
with any luck, they won’t be closed this week:)

JoBParticipantI got some time to read today…
I am still reading Alternative Treatments for Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatiuge Syndrome 2nd edition by Mari Skelly and Helen Walker.. both local women.
I liked the first edition and love the second. the first half of the book is a great explanation of Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the associated conditions…
the middle is an explanation of alternative therapies available and a treasure trove of practitioner recommendations for anyone living int he Seattle area…
in the last section i discovered spread sheets with meds and supplements used to treat FMS & CFIDS. For someone with memory issues.. these are a godsend.
I am nearly done with the book.. so we need to figure out if the day, time and place for this group needs to be adjusted.
i will try to continue every week through the end of the month.. but it is a bit more than i can chew long term.. so if this group is coming together.. we need to work out the details for “first and third” or “second and fourth” schedule…
input please..

KatherineLParticipantI forgot it was Thursday today.
It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s one and three or two and four. I’ve only made it to one meeting so far anyway.

I will ask the people in my network.
July 22, 2009 at 3:56 pm #671163
JoBParticipantYup.. tomorrow it will be thursday again.. and i will be at Cafe Rosella from 2 to 4 PM.

JoBParticipantmaybe not shorts.. how about my long technicolor skirt and ???
it’s still too early for me to make wardrobe decisions..
July 23, 2009 at 7:32 pm #671165
JoBParticipantI am getting a lot of requests for local West Seattle practitioners of various forms of body work that are beneficial to people with serious chronic pain and fatigue issues…
if you’re local and you do something that you think is helpful.. please either contact me at joanne@brayden.org or post a brief description of what you do.. why you think it might be helpful and contact info…

JanSParticipantwell, I’m more than happy to adjust fees for people who can’t take a whole hour of massage because of pain, or simply do a foot/leg massage, or a neck/ shoulder massage. Half hours are $40, I can provide receipts for med. flex accounts, if needed. I realize that one type of massage does not fit all..that not every fibro body is the same, so I tailor massage to the individual’s tolerance and needs.Sometimes just being able to relax on the massage table, with light massage, helps. It doesn’t always have to be deep tissue, or massage to “fix” something physical. For more info just click on my name, takes you to my website and how to contact me.
And don’t forget about Erik LaSeur… http://www.alkimoves.com he can help with movement in a not painful way, using Feldenkrais. Click on his website to know more about it.Sometimes learning to move in a slightly different way, making a minor adjustment in how you go about life, can make a difference.

hammerheadParticipantI have bursitis really bad and a mild form of fibo. I take something called OPC by isotonix. I was going in every 4 weeks for cortizone shots and now I am up to 10 weeks with NO cortizone just using maricane(sp) and xy.something. just thought i would pass along info on what seems to work for me

JoBParticipanthammerhead…
because we all have different bodies… and different reactions to medications.. and different sets of symptoms.. complicated by different contributing conditions… there is no one size fits all treatment for FMS…
but it is always good to hear a success story…
sometimes the suggestion that seems the most unlikely is the one that works for you.
Trading those suggestions is what support groups do best…
JanS..
thanks for posting about the variability of needs people with FMS have…
Body work literally works wonders for lots of people with chronic pain conditions.. including fibromyalgia (FMS) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).. and finding a practitioner who is willing to listen to you and your body is not easy.
I can vouch that Jan listens…
and Erik too…
I am still using information i got from one of his free classes … and looking forward to enough improvement to be able to do some private sessions so i can make the next step…
When you listen to FMS and CFS success stories.. almost all of them include some nutritional work that may or may not include supplements (bioneturaceuticals) and some form of bodywork combined with appropriate exercise…
i am looking for a yoga group for people with chronic pain and mobility issues… or one of the healing movement programs… so i have reasons for hoping to hear from more of you…
I finished my book yesterday (Alternative Treatments for Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatiuge Syndrome 2nd edition by Mari Skelly and Helen Walker).. and even though i am considered a patient authority on FMS and CFS.. i got a lot out of that book… a perspective on some current research i hadn’t considered and a lot of local resources.
i could also use a recommendation for another…
Anyone read anything on FMS and CFS lately that really spoke to them?
July 30, 2009 at 8:30 am #671169
JoBParticipantCancelled 7/30 due to heat…
i am a very stubborn woman.. but this a solution oriented support group and on hot days the solution is to find someplace cool.. and stay there..
July 30, 2009 at 6:04 pm #671170
JoBParticipantbump…
it is too hot to go sit in a cafe… even with good company…
i won’t be there today (7/30)
