Anybody got a link to noise and/or nuisance ordinances that apply in West Seattle? I’d like to understand what is a rule-breaking nuisance I can report and do something about vs. what I just have to put up with.

My problem is the ice cream truck parked in front of my house near the school, blaring its little jingle nonstop for several hours a day, several days a week.

I guess lots of people must have their own noise complaints. It would be nice to have a short summary of what’s allowed and who to complain to about excessive stuff.

Unless the volume is ear-blasting, the city ignores noise complaints about ice cream truck music. You might try calling Parking Enforcement at 206-684-9012 and reporting the truck as a parking violation. Many cities have traffic codes that include ticketing a private vehicle that parks on the street with its engine on for more than 20 minutes.

Good luck. I live near one of West Seattle’s kiddie playgrounds and know how annoying the endless musical loops are. I dread this summer because the ice cream jingle of choice has changed from the merely annoying “Turkey in the Straw” to the god awful “It’s a Small World.”
