ARCjobsParticipantAssociated Recreation Council is now interviewing for Substitute Child Care Counselors for over 25 community center locations around Seattle.
Our school-age care programs, preschool programs, after school enrichment programs, and teen programs provide a fun, creative, safe, and welcoming environment for children to learn, play and grow. Our substitute pool helps employees gain experience working in our programs and provide the foundation for becoming regular, part-time or full-time employees.
Substitute Child Care positions are great for those going to school, work other part-time jobs, or have other obligations.
Available locations for school year programs include (additions/availability subject to change):
•Northwest Seattle: Ballard, Bitter Lake, Green Lake, Loyal Heights, and Magnolia Community Centers
•Northeast Seattle: Meadowbrook and Northgate Community Centers, John Rogers Elementary School, Thornton Creek Elementary School, and Wedgwood Elementary School
•Central Seattle: McGilvra Elementary School, Miller (Lowell and/or Stevens Elementary Schools), Queen Anne Community Center, Garfield Community Center (Summer Only), and Yesler Community Center (Summer Only)
•Southwest Seattle: Alki Community Center, Delridge Community Center, Hiawatha Community Center, High Point Community Center, and South Park Community Centers; Genesee Hill Elementary School, Lafayette Elementary School, and Schmitz Park Elementary School
•Southeast Seattle: Jefferson, Rainier, Rainier Beach, and Van Asselt Community Centers
•Please indicate your preference of location(s) in your application/cover letterOur Counselors:
•Work with child care program staff to ensure the care and safety of participants at all times
•Organize and lead programs and activities such as: arts and crafts, organized games, cultural activities, drama, music, story hour, sports, field trips and other special projects and events
•Must be willing to complete training for certification in First Aid/CPR, Food Handlers Permit, HIV/AIDS blood-borne pathogens education, and STARS trainingRequirements:
•Eighteen years of age or older
•High School diploma/GED or transcripts of secondary education
•At least one year experience working with 5-12 year olds
•Clear Tuberculosis results within the past 12 months
•Must pass criminal background check
•Must provide required documentation for proof of eligibility to work in the United States
•Must sign up for direct deposit with either a checking or savings account or Payroll PaycardShifts:
•All positions are considered on-call; with the opportunity to gain extra hours on school breaks, summer camps, and professional development days.
•September through June: 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., and/or 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (times may vary based on specific location)
•June through August: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.Who May Apply: This position is open to all candidates that meet the minimum qualifications.
