trickycooljParticipantLooking for a good quality soak off gel manicure (Shellac, Axxium, Gelish, etc not acrylics or old school gel) before going on vacation later this week. I know the longevity of the manicure depends so much on how well it’s done. I’ve had some done that peeled off in a matter of days and some that last the prescribed 2-3 weeks. Last spring when I moved to West Seattle I tried a salon at the recommendation of a coworker and almost panicked and fled when I saw them illegally removing calluses with a credo blade and just sharing the tool between clients! I’m pretty picky when it comes to sanitation practices in salons. (I have family in the biz but too far away unfortunately.) There’s icky stuff that you can catch from unclean tools!
There are so many salons up and down California it’s hard to keep them straight on Yelp and the most recent I could find in the WSB Forum was a year or more old. Nail salons turn over fairly quickly and these UV curing polishes are somewhat new in the last few years I wanted to see if there were any up to date recommendations and specifically for a Shellac/soak-off service.

librarianMemberShanti Salon & Spa in Admiral is great. I am really hard on manicures, lucky to get home without damage. My shellac lasted 2-3 weeks. Plus no worries about cleanliness I see Cat but they are all good. 2138 California Ave SW 206-932-5988

LindseyParticipantI always get my nails done at Nail Time on California. I’ve gotten one Shellac there, and it lasted almost three weeks without a single chip. I can’t recommend their removal service, however, because I took my shellac manicure off at home. I’ve never had any issues with cleanliness or procedures at this salon.

CaitParticipantSecond recommendation for Nail Time. Tulip Nails in Jeff Square is also very good.

trickycooljParticipantThanks for the recommendations! Are these locations better with appointments or is walk-in easier? Aiming for Wednesday afternoon.

CaitParticipantI’ve always walked in to both with no wait.

WSeattleGirl86MemberI forget the name of the salon on California and Raymond, with the bright neon lights, but they have shellac and my manicure lasted 2 – 3 weeks. I even went home and immediately did dishes.

JustSarahParticipantI like the same place WSeattleGirl86 mentioned. City Nails. They’re great. Just look for the crazy number of LED signs in the window. :-)

CaitParticipantI have gone to City Nails a couple of times but the last time I was there the gal doing my nails had a horrible cold and was coughing the entire time without covering her mouth and got me sick. :(

bsmommaParticipantCity Nails is great. I have been going there for years. I have not personally witnessed any sharing of the tools nor have I had any issues with getting anything yucky. They do sterilize. Head to Toe does great work too if you’re looking for more of a serene spa atmosphere.

trickycooljParticipantBooked an appointment at Shanti, figured I’d start vacation a little early with a more spa style splurge. They also had a coupon on their website for a mani/pedi combo! As summer gets close and I’m feeling less splurgey I’m definitely going to check out all of your recommendations!
Thank again WSB!! :)
