I have a bunch of ‘junk’ that I’d love to have hauled away…mostly junk wood. Anyone have any recommendations for best cost/service??

Junk Boys, or hire a worker or two from the Millionair club to load it onto a truck and take it to the dump.

If it’s usable wood, post on freecycle.org.

For anyone who has a lot of junk to get rid of, I would suggest calling Eastside Hauling and Container Services. Yes, it is an Eastside business, but they were the most reasonable of everyone I called, and they DO SERVE West Seattle.

    .

My wife and I just finished renting a 20 yard dumpster to get rid of 10+ years of accumulation and we were very happy with EHC. A 20 yard dumpster is about 5 feet tall, by 8 feet wide, by 14 – 15 feet long.

    .

Prices? The above size dumpster was $175 for a week, including delivery and pickup. This gives you 7 days to fill the dumpster and then they come get it when you are ready. On top of the $175 fee, they charge about $98 per ton. You load it – but they haul it away and dump it for you, and then bill you for the weight.

    .

The $98 per ton is what they are charged at the dump. What you are paying them for is essentially dumpster rental. You will pay the same price per ton at the dump if you haul it yourself.

    .

BEWARE of other services that have lots of “hidden” charges. I learned a lot by spending several hours calling around.

    .

This is not going to work for everyone, but if you have more than several pickup truck loads, the dumpster is much easier, because you will pay the same $98 fee at the dump, and YOU will have to LOAD and UNLOAD each trip to the dump.

    .

You can pretty much put anything in the dumpster except for any hazardous material like paint, oil, batteries, etc.

    .

Call Sonja at Eastside Hauling and Container, (425) 643-4386, or look at their web site at:

    .

We felt it was well worth the money, and much less expensive than one of these trash / junk removal companies, IF you have a lot of junk.

I would also recommend All Wood Recycling in Redmond. They will drop off and pick up a 30yd wood only dumpster for $350. Great service as well. No web site, but all you do is fill it up and they take it away. They are very nice, family owned.

PS, AWR takes all wood. Pressure treated, painted, clean or dirty.

If it’s burnable wood (not treated or painted), then Craigslist free section works well. I’ve had several truckloads of wood picked up through that by people wanting to burn the wood.

EDIT: Just noticed this thread was started a year ago. Argghhhh.
