miwsParticipantWas in the Junction this morning, a rather rare occurrence for me anymore, and I finally remembered/took the time to, see about getting the broken clasp on my Medical Alert Bracelet replaced.
Now, in all honesty, I probably would have given pretty equal consideration between Russell’s and Menashe, them both being longtime, family owned, well respected West Seattle Businesses.
However, what basically clinched it for me, is that even though each are frequently recommended by WSB’ers, WSB’er Celeste always recommends Russell’s, and for some reason I trust her. ;-)
Anyway, the Gentleman (presumably Owner Ron) behind the counter replaced the clasp, and all it cost was a handshake. He even expressed a great deal of concern when I told it him it had been weeks, if not a couple months, that I had not worn it due to the broken clasp.
Now, nobody should expect to get free items and services; these folks, especially our Local Small Businesses, need to make money to keep their Businesses and lives viable, but gestures like this are what truly makes Community.
This gesture felt a bit bittersweet, as I was on my way to Liberty Bell Print & Design Owner Michael Hoffman’s Memorial Service. So, I was in a bit of a somber mood, thinking back of my relatively short time of interaction with Michael, and all of the nice things that Folks that had dealt with him on either a personal or professional basis, or both, had said in regards to their own interactions with him, and how he would often got the extra mile.
Co-Rave to Terjung’s Studio of Gifts; I walked in the door, and the nice Gentleman kindly greeted me, and I inquired about getting the bracelet clasp replaced. He nicely said; “Oh, you want next door.”
Me: *Thinking* “HUH?!?” *Slaps forehead–“DUH”* “Oh! This is Terjung’s!” Worked out fine though, as I needed to get a card, so purchased one there, and had a nice chat with Mr. Terjung. I mentioned that I was also going to Michael’s Memorial; (Mr. Terjung had a note on his door stating he would be closed for a bit due to that), and Mr. Terjung and I chatted about the Printing Biz; he had worked in it in the past, as had my Dad.
When I walked in next door to Russell’s, and saw the glass display cases, I felt even sillier for getting the places confused, as walking into Terjung’s there were cards and giftware, and such; (not a huge surprise for a Jewelry Store, I thought) but then I saw an area with candy displays, and thought that a bit odd.
But, then again, both have been Junction fixtures for decades so maybe it’s somewhat natural to get them a bit confused. :-)

celeste17ParticipantI love Patty and Ron. When we were doing the fundraiser for Mike I went to them and asked for a donation and they gave me an item. Before my dad died he was going to have a watch that belonged to one of his Aunts restored for me and never got it done. Mom and I took the watch to Russell’s and he kept me updated on the whole process.
Even though they don’t live in West Seattle they still support a lot of events without the fan fare.
