My husband and I just hired a great plumber to fix a leak we had in our basement. We woke up to find a big water spot in the ceiling below where our bathtub is and immediately called a plumber. We called Tom Bevens who lives here in West Seattle. He came over that day, did a free estimate, and came back to fix it just two days later for only $50. We plan on hiring him again to help us with our basement remodel. He was very professional and friendly, plus he’s a local! If you’re looking for a plumber call him, he’s great! 206-931-3365

I echo the RAVE for Tom B at Affordable Plumbing. Called him at 6:30 tonight and by 7:00 he was there and 2 minutes he fixed the toilet. He charged a fraction of what Freekin’ would have charged me (I know as I used them once for a 10 miniute repair that cost me $400). THANK YOU TOM. Good good to know a quality guy is available, and I will use him for other projects.

Wanted to add a rave for Tom and the crew at Affordable Plumbing of West Seattle. They recently finished a basement remodel for us where we added a new bathroom and laundry room.

I had used Tom previously for some small plumbing jobs and he mentioned that if we were ever ready to add a bathroom in our basement we should contact him. Well a few months later and we now have a brand new bathroom and laundry roo downstairs. The guys did a great job and basically did all the work, from framing to new plumbing to tiling the floor and shower. And you ABSOLUTELY cannot beat the price Tom charges.

Overall we are extremely happy with their work and I highly recommend them for any job you have around the house, even though they area plumbing company they really can do anything you need.

Theses rave reviews make me almost wish I had a plumbing problem! :)

Adding this # to the list of West Seattle professionals to call if need be.

I have to add to the rave reviews for Tom and Affordable Plumbing. When the hot water handle in the shower stopped working one night, we called Tom the next morning. He was here within an hour, fixed the problem, and we were up and running again! (A HUGE deal for our family of four with ONE bathroom.)

I just want to list a caution related to Tom at Affordable Plumbing. I felt comfortable hiring him based on this Rave set which seems to get bumped up frequently probably as a marketing ploy. I explained quite a few projects I wanted completed and went over each in detail. When I asked his rates he kept saying “I am a third as expensive as anyone else”. Or he would say This will cost a million dollars. He said he really didn’t need work and just wanted to keep busy. Like an idiot I never got an actual quote from him. He was quite slick. On the appointment date he dropped off a guy I had never met and left. I wish I had been advised. His cost was three times what I’ve paid for even more complex jobs. The job was done well. I wasted the time during the initial meeting as he totally forgot the project and had his guy go get parts he should have listed already. I know I am an idiot for not getting a firm quote even though I asked 6 or 7 times , he had a joke to avoid answering. Trust me, he is NOT inexpensive. He bills at the high end from my ten years of pretty intense home improvement cost experience. Always get a written quote from him.

I would really find this hard to believe as we used Tom for a couple of jobs and he was by far the best tradesman that we have used on several projects that we have done on our old house. Tom is the best!

Tom recently helped me with a sewer pipe replacement which included a basement excavation and exterior excavation. His team was professional, efficient, and very thorough. Tom also advocated for me with my insurance company and was great at communicating the progression of the project. I would highly recommend him for your minor or major plumbing needs.

To clarify, asI stated above, the work completed by the person Tom dropped off was done perfectly. I assume that Tom would ensure his people actually performing the work do it to high standards. My issue is with his sly way of not providing a quote as to the cost and leading a potential customer to believe he is only a third as expensive as other plumbers. This is not true. Hourly, my job cost near $275/hour. In my experience, this is not 2/3 less than other plumbers I have used. My caution is just to get a written cost quote. He does not bill by the hour but by the project. I recommend as such you completely detail via bullet points each service and all parts you expect this fee to cover. I am sure his team does great work…it is just very expensive.

To further clarify…Tom is a very nice person. He did not charge a fee to come to my home to view projects I needed completed as most plumbing companies do. He may have added the time for this initial visit to the end cost of the one project I had his person complete, but a fee was not required and was not charged upfront just to talk to him. You will not be charged a travel fee and minimum hourly rate or any other charge just to discuss a project and are free not to hire his people without cost. I was at fault not to insist on a written quote no matter his jokes and evasions and statements as to how inexpensive he was. If I had received a written quote, I was free to decline his service, seek other bids or even use his service as I rarely go for low bidders w/o many references. The fault of being shocked at the cost was mine, but I think the caution for others is just good sense for all home improvement projects and repairs.

He has asked you to give him a call to discuss this matter, have you picked up the phone?

Tom does great work but I second the idea that he is not cheaper then other plumbers and you have to pay attention to how long they actually take. After they left, I noticed I had paid for 1.5 hours when they were here not quite an hour.
