trickycooljParticipantJust in case anyone signs up for UPS My Choice thinking that its a great idea to intercept your packages and reschedule deliveries think again. Yes the notifications are nice, I get auto emails the day before a package is to be delivered. BUT last Friday I was going to be out of town for the weekend and paid $5 to reschedule my delivery from 3-7pm Monday (as in an hour ago at the latest). Well by 6:30 it’s rescheduled again for tomorrow. Called UPS and ask them to refund the fee since they missed their schedule completely. They tell me at 7:45 it’s still on the truck sometimes they work late. I’ve never seen UPS here after 6pm ever. Totally lied to get out of refunding the $5. Yeah $5 lesson learned but dangit that’s seriously annoying. I intend on calling again in a half hour or so because it will be obvious they’re not out delivering. It’s not Christmas.
Just got an email confirming they aren’t delivering today. Called again and oh I can call their billing department tomorrow to contest for a refund. My package better not get stolen off my porch tomorrow. Definitely skip this service!

trickycooljParticipantI like my packages to come USPS since we have locking mail and parcel boxes in High Point. :)

celeste17ParticipantI saw a UPS truck in my neighborhood around 7:30 this evening maybe closer to 8 pm. And was thinking wow they work late.

datamuseParticipantUSPS would be even more awesome if they’d start shipping alcohol…you know, like every other shipper does. :D

trickycooljParticipant@datamuse I heard recently they’re considering it to boost revenue, you might be in luck. :)
An update from UPS: Just called the billing department, the guy checked the tracking and saw the MyChoice schedule for yesterday and that it was out for delivery today. He spent some time writing up a report and sent it to the distribution center in charge of the package and had them call me. They called and said “you had a question about your package, looks like it’s out for delivery” I said yes, but I paid $5 to have it delivered yesterday from 3-7pm after I got home from vacation, can I get my $5 back because obviously My Choice doesn’t work. The lady had to stifle a chuckle (must not work much) and initiated a refund. So at least they made nice, but I won’t plan on using that rescheduling service ever again! And I wouldn’t normally order something with a 3-day weekend looming but I wanted to grab something that was not in store before the end of the Nordstrom sale and didn’t think their distribution center was a week away or I would have paid for quicker shipping.

datamuseParticipantGlad it was resolved, trickycoolj. Happy ending and all that. :)
I have used the service to redirect a delivery to hold for pickup, but a) that’s easier for them since all they have to do is not put it on the truck, and b) there’s no charge for it. I do this for the aforementioned booze deliveries (I’m a fan of several small wineries that don’t sell retail, so have to mail order) if I’m not going to be home because you have to sign for them in person.

QueenieParticipantUPS is awful. Sadly, so is FedEx, so there are not really any great options, though given the choice I would always choose the actual post office.
Horrible UPS Story #1: Two years ago I ordered a heritage turkey for thanksgiving online. We had had a weather issue that week, snow I think, and I was worried that they wouldn’t deliver my turkey as this exact same thing had already happened in the past where it snowed and they wouldn’t deliver and I had to drive to the UPS hub to pick it up. Only this year, when I called, I was told it would not be delivered… but I also could not pick it up. Why? Because a UPS driver had taken the truck it was loaded on, but only to deliver packages to businesses, literally, 5 minutes from my house. You are literally five minutes from my house, why can’t you drop it off, I asked? ‘Because’ was effectively the answer. I begged them to radio the driver and ask him to just drop it off as he was so close. They resisted, and then finally told me that he wouldn’t answer them. I have no idea if that’s what happened or not, since literally everyone I have ever interacted with at UPS has been astonishingly unhelpful.
I have another UPS doozy, but I’ll refrain. The bottom line is that I have learned that we, the people that are getting packages from them, are not actually their customers, so they don’t actually care if we’re satisfied or not. They’ll work to satisfy businesses and organizations that initiate a lot of shipping through them, but the guy actually getting the package absolutely does not matter to them. They genuinely do not care if you’re happy or not. And as most places don’t offer you a choice of shipping carriers, there’s really not a lot you can do about it.

datamuseParticipantQueenie has a point. When I answered phones for Amazon I often got better results for the customer than they could get by contacting the shipping company themselves. I have no idea if Amazon CS reps still have the kind of leeway I did; this was in the late 90s.
