Anyone familiar with this place on California Avenue – how is their care for seniors with Alzheimers? I know The Kenney has a great reputation, but the cost is even more exhoribitant than similar nursing facilities. This is NOT a criticism of the Kenney – it’s just the reality.

By the way, we should all be aware and prepared – the cost for assisted living, especially for people with Alzheimers, is shocking: $6,000 – $9,000 PER MONTH. So, if the elderly person has worked hard all their life and has put aside a little savings, it’ll all be eaten up in no time. And they don’t qualify for Medicaid until all their assets, everything they’re diligently saved over a lifetime, are practically wiped out. Great system we have here.

    BUT…what did Bonnie say??

Elder care is way too expensive. We pay nearly $5000 a month for several days and nights a week so my mom can stay in her home. She does not have alzheimers but is disabled somewhat from a couple of strokes. I stay the rest of the time. Both nights and days. For two years so far.I’m tired. I’d love to find some more reasonably priced yet reliable and safe care giving for my mom but so hard to find people that are willing to stay for 4 or 5 nights and days a week.

Hi, Oddreality. I think it would be best if you emailed Bonnie directly if you want more info.

Sorry that you, too, are going through this ordeal. Elder care is the elephant in the living room. No one wants to see it, no one wants to think about it. It’s an oddreality indeed.
