In the blocks around 31st and Elmgrove, someone has been repeatedly calling in to report vehicles parked on the street, resulting in difficult to remove orange stickers on the windshield. Many of these cars are owned by the people who’s house they’re parked in front of, and are in fact moved frequently enough to not need reporting. My husband last drove his car on Sunday, and he got a sticker today–Tuesday. I’m Furious because this feels unnecessary in most of these cases. We’ve lived here for 5 years, and it’s never been an issue until about 2weeks ago. We live on a street with tons of space for on street parking, and we can’t park in the alley, so this seems petty. I don’t think its parking enforcement because there’s no chalk on the tires and no parking tickets.

It doesn’t sound like somebody’s calling Parking Enforcement; they’re taking things into their own hands. When PE comes through my street they don’t put stickers on windshields. It’s either a ticket under the wiper or nothing at all.

It’s so frustrating and sort of damaging to the neighborhood vibe. :/

A few yeas ago when my Dad passed away I drove his truck to my house and parked it in front of my home so my Mom could pick it up the next day. Just over 12 hours later it had an orange sticker on it to be towed! I called and they said a neighbor must have called but couldn’t or wouldn’t tell me who. I thought we could park for 72 hours. But at the same time right now there is a cars2go car right in front of my house and it has been there for a few days.

Weird. I live within a designated urban village area. Someone parked a van, took out the battery and left. Two weeks later I filled out the online complaint from. Two weeks later the 72 hour notice sticker was stuck on. Two days later the person that doesn’t live on the block came back with a battery and moved it. Certain areas must be quick response zones.

I wonder about that too, Gina. I used to live on Fauntleroy, and sometimes people would abandon cars in front of the house I rented. I’d notice the car sitting there for a few days and then, just so I wouldn’t report someone inadvertently (since I hadn’t been counting the days it was there and didn’t want to be an overzealous parking complainer), I would wait a day or two longer before reporting it, just to make sure. It would take several days before anyone came and put the sticker on, and then several more days before the car was removed.

I’ve never heard of the City promptly responding to such a call. Usually they will take several days or even a week to respond with an orange tag. Then several days more to act on it.

The car2go issue has me concerned as the City has been giving them carte blanche to park wherever they like, no restrictions. This goes against the very reasons neighborhoods formed parking restriction zones.

The delay in the orange sticker you see is probably the City waiting 72 hours to monitor for itself if the car has been “abandoned”. They can’t just take the complainers word for it that the car has been there 72 hours already. They need to monitor it themselves so as to not jump the gun, or respond to a cranky neighbor. 1st world problems…

So I called the abandoned vehicle hotline and this is what happened: someone reported the car on July 1st; parking enforcement then came yesterday , chalked the tires and slapped the sticker on at the same time. They did not chalk the tires and then come back later to check to see if it was moved; they just took the reporter’s word for it. My husband drove his car 4 times between July 1st and yesterday! It just happened to be parked in the same spot everyday when he got home, because it’s in front of our house. Not only does he have to move it, he has to move it to another block! What’s the point of chalking the tires and slapping the sticker on AT THE SAME TIME?! It makes no sense to me! This means someone could just report any car willy-nilly and the car could get a warning! The worst part: my neighbor across the street has had his truck parked for two weeks with no recourse.

Join the party and call in your neighbor’s truck :)
