I just watched another awesome episode of Ninja Warrior on G4 and was inspired to look for any kind of obstacle course around West Seattle or Seattle in general. I would love to find a park or playground with a horizontal ladder (monkey bars), climbing walls, and other challenges. Does anyone know of such a place? How about a business like a gymnastics, parkour, or rock climbing place?

You can climb Schurman Rock at Camp Long (go see it during the lodge’s grand-reopening party 4-7 pm tomorrow!) – and I believe I’ve seen a climbing wall/”rock” in the lobby at Allstar Fitness … Also the upper-central part of Lincoln Park has those multiple-station fitness stops, can’t remember what they’re called. I’m sure others will have good suggestions, though maybe not till the end of another sunny (here’s hoping) summer weekend…

Thanks for the suggestions! I have seen the rock at Camp Long and I belong to All-Star, so I should try doing more rock climbing in both locations. I’ll have to look around at Lincoln Park for the fitness stops.

I am still curious if there are any monkey bars anywhere that an adult can use to work on some upper body conditioning. I am surprised more parks don’t have obstacle courses or monkey bars. It must be a liability issue or something. The more fun something is the more likely it is that it won’t be available due to insurance reasons!

I’m also curious if there are any parkour clubs or other groups that do outdoor obstacle course training in the area.

I’ve wondered the same thing. You might try the monkey bars, etc (and small climbing rock) at the old Pathfinder school, aka Genesee Hill School. I’ve gone there a few times to do exactly what you’re talking about and enjoyed the equipment and location.

There is a parkour gym in the Fremont area.

The workout stations in Lincoln Park are along the bluff trail – I think mostly closer to the southern end of the bluff trail.. I believe one of them does have monkey bars.

Many kid playgrounds have ‘monkey bars’.

Just please don’t take over the kids play areas like the older folks (college age ?) do at the rebuilt Steve Cox playground in White Center…

Parkour-type antics are fun to watch but not when they’re going on right over the heads of several 3-5 year olds.
