MarcobeharParticipantLooking for a licensed electrician to do some upgrades on our house. Appreciate any local electricians you’ve had positive experiences with.

mark47nParticipantWhat do I have to do with this?
There is no shortage of good electricians in the WS or greater Seattle area. Just make sure that they are not just licensed electricians but licensed contractors who are bonded and insured.
You can look up contractors and individual electricians here to see if they are legit and if they have any outstanding violations, which I recommend.
I catch flack for what I’m going to say next but I’ll say it anyway: the vehicles matter. If you have a contractor or electrician show up to your home in some janky busted old van you are seeing the level of service you may receive in the future. I like to see clean service vehicles, preferably with the companies name on them and clean put together employees driving them. Long hair, beards, etc don’t bother me so much as their state. These things indicate, in my experience as a long haired bearded electrician, the state in which they will leave your property upon the conclusion of the work. While this isn’t always accurate it is often enough that I pay attention to it in my own hiring of contractors and subs.
Finally, it’s your house. If you have a contractor’s employee make you uncomfortable get rid of them. If the contractor isn’t cooperative in that then get another contractor. They work for you, you’re paying them and…IT’S YOUR HOUSE!

CarDriverParticipantTo Mark47n’s comments. Homeowner’s MUST verify and ensure people working on their property ARE licensed and bonded. Call the state to confirm. If they’re not and someone get’s injured YOU THE HOMEOWNER ARE LEGALLY LIABLE and WILL be sued. IT happened to a friend of mine in Shorewood and the gal that does the home remodeling show on KOMO radio on Saturday’s said it happen to her years ago. To his other comment…my mom needed some work done on her house on Genesee Hill. We kids were busy so she found a “handyman” that said he could do the work. Mom said he was a “little scruffy” and had an old car. Turned out work he did was excellent and charged a fair price. When her oil furnace went out she had the oil company service van come out. The repairman was uniformed and clean cut. When he left it not only wasn’t fixed right it was leaking oil!! They did come back(different guy) and fix it correctly. Moral of my story is that homeowners MUST do their homework on who they’re hiring and PAY ATTENTION

Your thoughtsParticipantMark47n, my apologies for using your user name. I saw your post to another thread and that you mentioned you are or had been an electrician for 19 years and thought you might be a good candidate for the seeker of this thread. Again my apologies.

mark47nParticipantIt’s not a problem. I just couldn’t see the connection.
