Hello, West Seattle. My lovely wife and I have just arrived in Seattle from Kansas City. Sadly, the houses we were going to tour this weekend have all been gobbled up by other renters. This means that she and I and our lovely pups are stuck in a crummy motel by the airport (yuck!) until we can find a place. The first thing we did when we arrived was head to West Seattle to look for ‘For Rent’ signs, but my wife’s exhaustion from the drive here coupled with the gobs of people enjoying a Friday night out on the town made it quite difficult. We aren’t particularly picky, but do need some sort of yard or outdoor space for our rescues. We are absolutely desperate for a place, not just for ourselves but for our dogs as well. We’re good people, in our 30’s, former home owners, respectful of others and, here’s the sexy part, have EXCELLENT credit. Anything you can offer in terms of suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact either of us at francke13@gmail.com or lmfg3@hotmail.com. Thank you in advance and we can’t wait to hear from you.

Great question and silly of me to have left it out of my original post. We’d like to keep it around $2500.

ISaved: I just saw a lovely house for lease this week on 45th Ave., SW ( just before the road turns into Marine view Drive) about one block south of Endolyne Joe’s restaurant. It is listed by Windermere.

Thanks, jissy. I’ll walk by there today. We’re still debating whether or not we want to use Windermere, but beggars can’t be choosers. Keep the ideas coming please!

Is there any flexibility in the location? How big are the pups?

Sure, Talaki, we’re flexible. We’ve considered a number of neighborhoods, we just put West Seattle at the top of our list. Our pups are a variety of sizes. We have a small terrier mix, a lab mix, and a Great Dane mix. Huge obstacle, I know. My job in Kansas City occassionally put me face to face with abandoned and abused dogs and so my wife and I have taken these three in. We hadn’t planned on being in a position where we’d need to find a rental ever again, but here we are in Seattle trying to find a new place.

The house directly behind Uptown Espresso in the Junction has a for rent sign on it. Yard looks fully fenced too. I have no other details.

Was thinking of a couple ideas although you’ve probably gone this route already. Check in with some of the local management companies: Washington Management wmcrealestate.com 206-382-2909 in the Junction. Also Landllord Management, 206-935-2411 & Associates West, talk to Marion, she is very helpful… 206-938-5633. Randall Berg is another.

Well squareeyes, they won’t rent to us–too many dogs. Good lead, though. Jissy, you are giving me waaaay too much credit. I’m getting on the phone now to give those places a call.

You have all been so helpful. Thank you very, very much!

I just saw the house on 45th today too but I see someone else already mentioned it. (I thought of the Blog when I saw it! LOL!) Rentals are hard and rentals with dogs are even harder. I hope you find something!

Funny thing is, my wife called and spoke to the owner a couple of days ago bud didn’t realize it until we got there this morning to look at it. The owner just called us, actually, forgetting he’d spoken to us over the weekend. We’ve got some leads and are going to see a place in West Seattle at 630 tonight. Fingers crossed…

Thanks again for keeping us in mind. You folks are the best! Hopefully we’ll be neighbors soon.

Tonight was a war of attrition. We had scheduled what we thought was a personal showing of a house. Well, turns out lots of folks were invited. You know, like an open house. Oh snap! We were not excited about our chances. I mean, why rent to a couple with dogs when there are plenty of other interested parties without them? We all waited and waited and waited. No landlord arrived. One by one the groups began to leave. Attempts by others to contact the owner by phone and email were unsuccessful. They lost patience, but we persevered. We sat it out until we were the last couple remaining. Let’s give them a few more minutes, we said to each other. Then, suddenly, a car rolled up. A woman got out with two little girls. Oh great, this must be another perspective renter with no dogs. Wrong! It was the landlord’s wife. She and her husband had a bit of miscommunication and she arrived a tad late. It seems our luck is turning. We got a tour of the modest, yet unique, two story craftsman. Big rooms, fun layout, cool landscaping and, the kicker, a fenced with a garage. We win! The woman we met was so nice and her two kids were adorable and very outspoken. She said we were lucky to meet her (the husband was in London)because she’s so easy going. She told us to fill out some paperwork and email it to her husband and viola! the place would be ours. Here’s to hoping all goes well tomorrow. I hope my lovely wife and I have the good fortune of rubbing shoulders with you soon. I owe lots of beers to so many of you–many others emailed me personally instead of posting. What a great community! I don’t want to count my chickens before they’re hatched, but some have been following this tale and I thought it fitting to share our progress.

*Thank you for rescuing the pups and then not abandoning them because the search has been difficult.

Success!!! We found a great place just a few blocks from the Alaska Junction. Yay! We should be signing the lease tonight, as well as handing over a hefty check. We move in tomorrow morning. Thanks again to all who helped us, it was greatly appreciated. Here’s to hoping we get to know some of you and that our neighbors enjoy having us. Also, if anyone knows of anyone with pets and is in need of a rental, we found another really nice place up near Northgate with a fantastic yard and a pet loving landlord. I’d be happy to pass along the contact info. The reason we chose the place in West Seattle is because, well, it’s West Seattle. We don’t even live here yet (officially) and we already love it here. Cheers and see you around the ‘hood!

Congrats! Glad you were able to find something so quickly! Sometimes luck really does have to be on your side. My current apartment, I had contacted management to see if they had anything available (I knew the building since I see a practitioner in the lobby of the building). I just happened to get my request in right before the Craigslist ad went out for the same apartment, and had my visit scheduled for first thing in the morning, apparently with 4 people scheduled right after me. Had I not been first and had a checkbook in my pocket for a deposit, I likely would have missed out.
