cathywMemberMy friends and I have been meeting occasionally in the Alaska Junction for several years. In the past we have had a wonderful lunch afterwards at the Blue Willow. Of course the Blue Willow is now closed. Being the only one from West Seattle, it’s my job to figure out where to eat lunch tomorrow. Well I hate to admit it, but for various reason I am clueless about our choices. We need something in the Alaska Junction that is accessible for a person in a wheelchair. Casual, simple fare is best. There are usually 6 or 7 of us, so we need a good sized table. Thx for any suggestions.

metrognomeParticipantcathyw — as a wheelchair user, I’ve run into problems with many of the Junction eateries not being very wheelchair-friendly, esp if they are crowded (altho there are a number of newer establishments I haven’t tried to get into yet.)
I would recommend the Great Harvest Bread Co; easily accessible, not far from the bus stops on Alaska and it has the casual, simple fare you’re looking for.

Here’s the Junction business list:

metrognomeParticipantI should have been clearer about the accessibility issues … I think all the places in the Junction are accessible in that you can get in the front door (many require someone to help with the door.) The problem is that many have a bar with stools and the tables are so close you can’t get between them when they’re occupied (or they have booths which aren’t accessible.) Often there are one or two tables near the door, so if you can snag one of them, you’re ok.
I’m hoping someone who is more familiar with the menus might weigh in re: food choices.

jissyParticipantcathy: I would recommend Kamei, easy access and they have a couple 6 top tables that a wheelchair could park right up to. Good diversity on the menu and great pricing, too. The Bento boxes are my favorite! I think Puerta Vallarta also would be an adequate choice (just thinking about the restaurant layout, they have a ground level section but also wide ramp to the upper/main section) if your party was interested in Mexican food.

squareeyesParticipantIf everyone in your party likes Indian food, Maharajah has an inexpensive lunch buffet, and it can certainly accommodate a wheelchair.

LisaMParticipantThe Tuscan Tea Room could be a nice choice – especially if you are a group of women (its a very flowery, girlie kind of place)I believe they have a couple of larger tables and very yummy food.

metrognomeParticipantjissy — you’re right about the Puerto Vallarta. I had lunch there a while back with someone else in a wheelchair and a third friend. It was pretty quiet at lunch and there was plenty of room on the upper level. Haven’t been to the Maharajah or Kamei.

dhgParticipantBang bar has an awesome lunch so you should check to see if the wheelchair can be accommodated.
