    Hi Teresa,

If you haven’t done so already, you may want to E-Mail this info to the WSB Editors, so they can post it in the Pets/Lost & Found section.

Hope you get reunited with your girl.

I’ll e-mail you too. I did not see this earlier because it was not sent to us – but a dog that looks like it might be a chocolate lab turned up at Admiral Chevron tonight and someone DID e-mail it to us for the Pets page a little earlier. If you see this before you see my forthcoming note to you, look here for the photo:

I’m so sorry to hear about your lab, I’ll be on the lookout. If you haven’t already, contacting some of the larger doggie daycares in the area may be a good idea.

I saw a lab fitting that description two days ago in front of the house right next to the fauntleroy ferry. Always bugs me to see an accompanied dog but I haven’t had any luck a corraling one. They always end up running into traffic so I don’t even try anymore.

A couple of tips for people who want to try to catch a stray or loose dog:

    * Do not move towards the dog; in most cases, that will just cause them to move away from you.

    * Turn sideways. In the doggie world, moving straight towards someone is an aggressive movement. A happy dog approaching another dog in a friendly manner will most often walk in an arc, not a straight line. Turning sideways shows the dog you are friendly.

    * Bend over slightly. Dogs “bow” to each other when they want to play. If you bend at the waist or crouch down a little, this can approximate the doggie play bow.

    * Move backwards. Again, moving forward is agressive. Moving backwards is more enticing: hey, come play with me! Clapping your hands or patting your thigh can also be enticing in a friendly way.

Once you have the dog’s attention, try asking them for a common stationary command, like a Sit or a Down. If the dog complies, praise them in a high, sing-songy voice (yes, men need to use your falsettos for this) while you *slowly* approach the dog in a somewhat indirect manner. Reach for their shoulder, not their head, when trying to get at the collar.

Hope this helps… it won’t work every time or with every dog, but at least it should improve your chances and be less stressful for the dog.

dhg- I also noticed that lab next to the Fauntleroy ferry. I remember because a guy was running up the street and scared the crap out of the dog. Hahahaha.

Good luck finding your doggie, I’ll be on the lookout.

So glad you got your dog back. That’s the important thing.

Animal Control gave you a license tag for a deceased dog and did not have your name on file? How is that possible? That’s not reassuring!

We are all so happy to have Bezi home! Her 8 y/0 old son was very lonely and we were worried sick. She was found by some nice neighbors a block a way.

I did follow up with Animal Control on her pet license. I renewed her tag in March…because the old one had fallen off…sure enough they game me the number for a West Seattle German SHepard that died 2 years ago. They did follow up with that family… but that did not help us. Our rescuers asked me how in the heck i had that pet id? THey were a bit suspicious!

They are sending us a new number for Bezi. I am going to have my vet scan her to to see what went wrong there.

She is sporting a brand new pet tag and a live battery for the electric fence. She is a digger so regualr fences can not keep her in.

    Thanks all

Hopey: Thanks for the tips. I was once trying to get two dogs back into their own yard and they didn’t let me get close, they barked, they growled and tried to chase me off despite my talking so nice to them. Then I saw a stick at my feet. I picked it up and threw it. The two suddenly stopped barking, looked shocked, then turned, chased the stick and brought it back to me, tails a wagging. I had never seen such a transformation.

This is great news–your canine family is complete again.
