JackieBluesParticipantI’ve read on here before about the WS Hum and was wondering if anyone ever really figured out where or what it is? I’ve also read on other websites people hearing it in Arbor Heights and other neighborhoods close by. So here is the weird question…can a person put something into the ground to make a sound and vibration come into another house? I know, weird right, but we have a neighbor that swears up and down that is what they believe has happened at their home.We have gone to said other neighbors house and asked if they put “anything” into their backyard, sprinkler system… and they said no. We are at our wits end on this and said maybe it is your tinnitus…great big NO.
AGAIN just wondering if anyone else is going thru something like this with someone they care about and don’t just want to come right out and say the “C” word? AND YES we have checked most everything that could make a noise like this inside a house. Hot water tank, pipes, toilets…April 27, 2022 at 4:17 pm #1032944

mark47nParticipantThe short answer is yes, low enough frequencies in sound can propagate through the earth. It’s a phenomenon known as infrasound. It’s generally less that 20Hz and requires a substantial sound pressure for it to be detected by people. So, there’s that.
There is also the WS Hum, a hum that many have heard on and off for many years with no definitive source.

sboneParticipantWhen we moved to West Seattle and rented a house down by the ferry dock, there was a low frequency sound that came and went with the arrival and departure of each ferry…could the “WS Hum” be as simple as that?

jackieBlues.2Participantmark47n, What could make that infrasound sound, could it be from the neighbors Solar Panels?

jackieBlues.2Participantsbone, She has lived in this home since 1958/1959 and it’s right above the Ferry Docks and she swears up and down it is not the cars loading and unloading, it is not the ships going by on the water… it has us stumped and we’ve been hearing about this “hum/sound” from her for way too long. :>(

mark47nParticipantThe hum heard from incoming and outgoing ferries is the sounds of the engines and screws of the ferry in the water. Under the right conditions it can induce sound into the earth, just like you walking on it, but with more pressure Not the Hum.
The hum is NOT infrasound, solar panels, 5G, net metering, fish, or the like. It’s the vacuum pumps and/or compressors used to load and unload the barges at CalPortland, formerly Glacier NW. This is definitive. There has been quite a lot of investigation into this.
