I have a 4 month old and a 2 year old. I just want to know where the best kid places are. I want to hear about it all- parks, classes, activities, fun centers. What nearby places would you recommend for kids my age and for when they’re a little older?

Hiawatha park and Lincoln park both have toddler appropriate play grounds and wading pools. Kenyon Hall’s Lou Magor runs Gymboree classes for little kids. Coffee to a Tea has an adequate play area for kids where parents can visit while kids play. Red Cup espresso on California has a drive thru – VERY good to know with two in car seats!

Anything that involves you spending time with them is the best! A walk along Alki is a great adventure, with a bucket to put the rocks they collect. Put them in the stroller and take them to local yard sales, give the 2 year old the opportunity to pick out one stuffed animal or toy and to pick out something for the baby. Take them to metro market and let them look at the crab/lobster tanks, go to the library, whale tale park, tour the firestation. Take them to Petco to look at the fish and other animals. Pick up lunch and have a picnic. Go for a walk and talk to them about the colors of the flowers, the numbers on the houses, letters on the license plates of the cars…. lots of free activities to build that bond with you and those babies. For your own peace of mind, it doesn’t matter where you go, just get outside every day – rain, sleet, snow or ice.

Oh, and run a search for the Yahoo group ‘West Seattle Moms of Tots.’ Lots of activities in and out of doors. Great way to find playmates, find out about places you may never have heard of, make connections with parents of similarly aged kids. Efficiently run and very inclusive.
