Alki WarriorParticipantDoes anyone care anymore if its Flag Day? Only the old timers I suspect. The younger Millenials don’t celebrate the Stars and Stripes. How many twenty year olds do you see get excited for Flag Day and what its supposed to represent? They are too busy playing Smartphone games. Heck most of them don’t even know about it.

seaopgalParticipantOf the 5 in my immediate neighborhood who fly the flag regularly (either all the time or on every designated holidays), I am the only one who could remotely be considered an old timer … and I’m not even all that old. The others are young families and/or ex-military. It’s not dead yet.

PLSParticipantIt is so nice to see lots of flags on Flag day and any day. Please, though, keep the flag code in mind. For example … Waynster – it is great that you go 24×7 but it is correctly/properly lit? Is it a weatherproof material?
Here are few points to remember (excerpted from the United States Flag code – see details here: http://www.senate.gov/reference/resources/pdf/RL30243.pdf)
* It is the universal custom to display the flag only from sunrise to sunset on buildings and on stationary flagstaffs in the open. However, when a patriotic effect is desired, the flag may be displayed 24 hours a day if properly illuminated during the hours of darkness.
* The flag should be hoisted briskly and lowered ceremoniously.
* The flag should not be displayed on days when the weather is inclement, except when an all-weather flag is displayed
* The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning
