“SEN. CHARLES SCHUMER (D), NEW YORK: I would urge my Republican colleagues, no matter how strongly they feel, you know? We have three branches of government. We have a house, we have a senate, we have a president. “

if only sarah had said that… rich would show up to defend it. :)

then again, she would have defended it herself – 140 characters at a time in twit-speak – long before huffington post got wind of it.

as it is, schumer’s is a pretty boring gaffe, but a gaffe nonetheless.

congratulations, smitty. here’s a cookie. now run along.

    Smitty…

and this one gaffe is so all over the fox airwaves that if you google Sarah Palin 3 branches of government pretty much all you will find is references to the Schumer quote 5 pages back…

    i didn’t bother going further.

    Smitty…

    btw…

Chuck Schumer has a said much stupider things than the 3 branches of govt gaffe…

those quotes didn’t make news because FOX news agreed with him :(

here is a thread tilt for you…

this morning on facebook a young man asked if i had seen Rosemary’s Baby…

he had recently discovered it and thought it was twisted…

that made me think of Who’s Afraid of Virgina Woolfe .. the movie that took verbal evisceration to a whole new level…

and that made me think of the somewhat modern variant on the same theme.. The War of the Roses.

(I apologize that i don’t know what the current rotten relationship steeped in love and mutual defensiveness is…)

and that made me wonder just where it was that our nation took a U-turn away from intellectual wit and landed in pratfalls.

and that of course made me think about politics :)

    Ah . . . Dear Awld ‘Ginny!

Elizabeth Taylor was so HOT in that film.

I still have fantasies about her at least 3X a week.

    And sometimes on weekends.

WHAT story? Is there ANY evidence that Schumer ACTUALLY BELIEVES the three branches include the President? I’ve heard Schumer speak, and he crams a lot of verbiage into his teevee time. If I heard something like that, I would be mildly temporarily amused at their misspeaking and, if they didn’t THEN use there gaff to support a point, I would move on.

I would have a very difficult time believing that never once in your life, Smitty, have you said one thing and meant another. That doesn’t mean that you don’t actually BELIEVE what you meant to say, just that you MISSPOKE.

    BFD, what a non-issue.

    Executive (includes the prez)

    Legislative (Senate and House)

Judicial (apparently left out by Schumer).

    We agree on something!

I will file this away just in case Sara hits the wrong button on her blackberry again!

Or, gets credited with saying something she never said (see Russia from my house).

Or, well, you get the point.

    Thanks!

    Rock

(Just sits there most of the time. Occasionally rolls around making noises. Often gets wrapped up in scandals.)

    Paper

    (Words words words. Origami tiger.)

    Scissors

(Great for cutting assorted papers to shreds, e.g., the Constitution. Occasionally gets hammered.)

    smitty…

there is a huge difference between an occasional lapse and consistent recurring lapses…

    One is an embarrassment

the other is generally a head’s up for a dementia check ;(

    already had my referral

    i’m doing fine… thanks :)

smitty: well, gee! now you know how the “big, scary, entrenched, socialist left wing who actually runs the government” feels when MSM ignores hundreds of thousands of people protesting a war.

in my defense, i conceded that schumer made a gaffe. pretty stoopit, too.

then again, i don’t have to get in the limelight for a living, so who knows what kinds of shite would pass my lips in the heat of battle?

anyway, will you accept a “well cookie?” (you know: like someone buying you a drink “in the well?”)

let me know, and i’ll set it up at bakery nouveau.

there is also a little difference between a half-term governator who thinks she is presidential material and is famous (and now wealthy) only because of McCain’s lapse of judgement and who thinks the world revolves around her and a career politician.

btw, saw it on Leno last night and since comedians seem to be more trusted as news sources than ‘news’ shows, I guess that’s one more instance of reportage. Wait, is that noise I hear Walter Cronkite spinning in his grave??

I like how Smitty talks about him/herself in the third person.
