I’ve got ants indoors and need a recommendation for a good, preferably eco, dog, people friendly exterminator. Thanks!

Hoff — had ants the last 2 years, didn’t treat them in 2009 but did last year. Called Frank with All-Pro Pest Control at 206-762-3959, a local guy and seemed pretty affordable to me. Had to do a couple treatments. Not sure about the eco, dog/people friendly part but I have 2 small children and was VERY concerned about the potential toxic effects and he had a product that seemed pretty mellow.

We just dealt with the exact same issue. We used Alpha Ecological. They use “green” products, so we and our cat could stay in the house during the treatment. Within a day or two, all ants were gone, and we’ve seen no sign of them since. Alpha is not cheap, but I felt a much more comfort in their product than some of the others we’ve used before. Good luck!

Johan with Progressive Pest Solutions. His card reads: Environmentally Responsible Pest Control. Never had him treat for ants, but did for yellow jackets in our wall and rats in our attic. Affordable, friendly, and trustworthy. Out of Burien. 206.444.6250

Keep the recommendations coming if you have them … our ants returned earlier than last year and we are probably going to try professional control IF we can find someone who seems non-toxic (except to the ants) enough. Terro hasn’t worked, herbs haven’t worked, every possible home remedy recommended hasn’t worked … I think it’s just beyond hope.

I also am concerned about beloved outdoor birds consuming ants that have come into contact with “non-toxic” … and other insects … We’ve had two estimates so far (nobody mentioned here yet) and I’m not impressed enough, yet. Think I will check with Alpha.

Are you guys getting the really tiny ants, I think they are commonly called sugar ants? We’ve had these lately and I have had some success with a solution of Borax, water and sugar. But if they don’t disappear completely, I might call a pro.

If it is those little tiny ants that march in a neat little line…you really need to find where they are coming from. They like heat and I found they were living in a house plant at one point and had a nest under a stepping stone in my front yard…problem solved.

Thanks for the tips! Ours are small. I used a vinegar and hot pepper sauce solution that killed the ones I can see. Unfortunately I can see some damage/evidence behind floor trim and drywall so fear I have just touched the tip of the proverbial iceberg.

Yikes, the ones I had were just looking for sugar or water. I actually found them going into an iron for the water in it and getting into cough drops…lol, but very frustrating.

I use an eco friendly exterminator for this every few years. Call Yohan 444-6250. He is great. I forget the name of his company.

We have the tiny black ant problem too. We called Cascade Pest Control… not sure of the results yet– treated 6 days ago with a solution we were told was harmless to humans after 2 hours… ants were dying but found about 20 lively looking ones making a new trail this morning…They said many times a second treatment is needed about a month later. I’ll be checking back on this forum to see if any of you have any solutions!

I can’t recall who we used a few years ago, except that it was an eco friendly non toxic treatment. It all worked but I did not like how I was treated. I was quoted one price on the phone, quite another when he got here. (“Oh, you have brick exterior, so we’ll have to move all the furniture way from the walls to poke holes every 16 inches” — they were told about the brick on the phone.) If I were to do it over and the guy gave me a very different price from the one on the phone I’d send him packing.

We use Alpha. Not sure where the buggers (ants) were coming from but they were marching through the house by what appeared to be the thousands. Alpha came out and at first it seemed that there were millions (again, ants) but then there were none. It was difficult not to squish them as they marched to and from the poison but well worth it. We will occasionally see one or two after a good rain but nothing compared to last year at this time. And, I think Alpha has a coupon in the Chinook book.

I chose Green Choice and they are fantastic. Eco friendly and they take time to answer questions–I had a ton! They try to use the same tech each time, and that’s nice for continuity. Good people and terrific results!

Had our follow up visit from Cascade Pest Control. It took about 7 or 8 days for the ants to disappear after original treatment and then they haven’t been seen since, so I’m hopeful that after this week’s follow up appt we should be ant free ! Satisfied with them thus far– very friendly ,sent the same tech. to our house, he answered questions I had re: toxicity…
