Anyone have any thoughts on what to do with your dog for a day trip? Or overnight? I would like to get out and do something different this weekend, but I must take my four legged friends. I know about hikes and such—anyone done something a bit out of the ordinary?

Day trip to Whidbey Island and go to the off leash area of Double Bluff Beach.

Overnight just about anywhere on the coast.

    Most places allow dogs.

Look for agility course classes, sheep herding for fun.

    google hot springs washington

hike into one of the hot springs and soak with your dog…

dogs love any novel experience.. it doesn’t matter to them where you take them… at least it doesn’t to mine..

groupon’s deal today is a zipwire for half price in woodenville… you could call to see if they have shade.

Do you have the dog lover’s companion to the pacific northwest?

she notes a swim center for dogs in issaquah and many dog friendly swimming beaches…

    my copy is dogeared ;)

not this weekend.. but you might want to look into this if your dog(s) are both people and dog friendly..

I love taking our dogs to Klaloch on the penisula. LEGAL doggie walks on the miles of beach rock.

We just took a trip to a large dog park (33 acres) near Gig Harbor. Our dogs LOVED it — it was also kind of nice for us, the woods in the dog park are pretty cool. Lots of fun little trails to explore. You could tire them out at the park and then poke around Gig Harbor for awhile.

We’ve gone to Iron Springs, a really falldy-down “resort” on the coast. It allows dogs (or did). It was probably a nice place 30 years ago. The cabins are sort of dreadful but it’s a very undeveloped stretch, which is nice. Lots of room for running the dogs.

There is a place right on the Strait of Juan de Fuca that rents cabins and they are LOVELY. They allow dogs. We haven’t stayed there but stopped by and chatted on a trip once.

I also suggest that you check out CityDog Magazine where there are lots of suggestions in every issue on regional trips to take with your dog.

We stayed at Vacations by the Sea in Westport – really nice condos right on the beach and several units are pet-friendly. Miles of practically deserted beaches that our dog absolutely loved, he had the time of his life!

@MarySheely – do you know the name or exact location of the park you visited near Gig Harbor? Just tried to google but didn’t find anything. Sounds like a great day trip this weekend…

We love taking our dogs to the Light House Resort Inn in Long Beach, WA. It is dog friendly, and dogs are allowed off leash on the beach. We usually go for a weekend rather than a day trip. The dogs have a blast. They do allow cars on the beach too, so you have to be careful.

PS of course Marymoor is also off-leash and they have 40 acres and water. Bandix was a little more woodsy if I recall correctly — been awhile since we’ve been to Marymoor! : )
