365StairsParticipantIt’s really difficult to watch these two act so unprofessional and interrupt each other over piddly crap. President needs to stop saying what MR plans are and focus on his plan.
October 23, 2012 at 1:27 am #774948
CaitParticipantWell if Mittens wanted to tell people what his plans ARE, the President wouldn’t have to draw it out of him.
October 23, 2012 at 1:30 am #774949
365StairsParticipantI hear you Cait. They seem to have calmed down. We shall see.
October 23, 2012 at 1:38 am #774950
CaitParticipantI think we jinxed it, 365. LOL.

365StairsParticipantGreat female comedian Madigan tells funny story about her conversation with a general telling her group about all the rebuilding going on in Iraq and Afghanistan…. Um… General perhaps we should invade Detroit. 😜

CaitParticipantShe is also doing an AMAZING commentary on Twitter tonight!

dobroParticipantMr. Romney’s knowledge of global issues and policy (not to mention 8th grade geography) can be summed up in his statement “Syria is Iran’s route to the sea.”
He clearly was in over his head. Notice he had nothing to say…nothing…about Libya tonight. He’s pretty much a big pile of talking points and lies glued together with hair gel and Grecian formula.

JoBParticipanti slept through another one…
looks like i made the right choice
I am sorry to hear though that Obama still seems to be running on the Romney doesn’t have a plan platform.
I had hoped he would com out with a reason for those who think this political stuff is all a sideshow to vote.

I dunno, Jo. You missed this classic moment, as it happened……
Quoth President Obama:
You mention the Navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets,” Obama said during the final presidential debate. “We have these things called aircraft carriers and planes land on them. We have these ships that go underwater, nuclear submarines.

dobroParticipantSome of the right wingers didn’t care for Mitt’s total agreement with POTUS’ foreign policy either…
Tweet from Glenn Beck-
I am glad to know that mitt agrees with Obama so much. No, really. Why vote?

RarelyEverParticipantMike – dead on! I remember thinking, uh weird, I totally thought Syria was to the north of the Arab Peninsula, and Iran wasn’t even part of it… but, well, it’s been about 30 years since High School and there have been a few bottles of wine & spirits in between… felt SOOO great to be vindicated when I saw someone pointing this out on FB! :D

dobroParticipantTo save time for our Romney lovin’ pals, here’s a sample post with their morning after talking points already laid out…
Romney looked presidential last night. Obama embarrassed himself, attacking Mr. Romney repeatedly. BTW, the Army still has horses AND bayonets, so nah-nah-na-na-nah.Romney was calm and cool and gave the president no openings to attack him on Libya by cleverly agreeing with him. Romney clearly won this debate.

Spring ChickenMemberOctober 23, 2012 at 6:04 pm #774964
WorldCitizenParticipantHere’s what Obama actually said:
“Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military’s changed.”
Note the use of the word fewer. He never said we don’t use them anymore.
October 23, 2012 at 6:13 pm #774965
AndyParticipantNot to put too fine a point on the bayonet thing (har-har), but the military has hundreds of thousands more bayonets now than it did in 1916.
Still, the message was sharply (oooh) delivered. I just thought I would take a stab (seriously?) at cutting off (oh, come ON!) any unnecessary bickering over that one.
And honing my pun skills at your expense
October 23, 2012 at 8:46 pm #774966
WorldCitizenParticipantRomney supports failed economic policies and has little understanding of how to maintain our efforts to further enhance our international standing.
He should not be president.

DBPMember1) Face it: geography is hard. How many of us would know (without looking at a map first) that Syria does not share a border with Iran? Granted, Prez. candidates should be more up on this stuff, but still . . .
2) Maybe what Romney meant to say was that Syria is Iran’s only access to a Mediterranean port. I don’t think that’s too far from what he actually did say, in fact.
3) Remember what I’ve been saying about people voting for candidates based on personal affinity? Considering that, Romney’s weak grasp of geography might not seem such a bad thing in the eyes of his base. It might even cause some voters to identify more strongly with him.
4) Even if Romney believed that Iran’s only route to the sea was through Syria, you have to put that into context of some of the other stuff he believes. If Romney were asked, he’d also say that the Earth is 6,000 years old and that humans did not evolve from apes. Would that cost him a single vote, even among those of his supporters who know better? Doubtful.

kootchmanMemberDon’t tell the Persians.. they wanted access to the Med… 400,000 troops and over 1000 naval warships to try and get it. Aleppo was a huge trading port for the Persian empire. And… a pipeline to the Med would be a major boon for Iran. Who was that historical figure…? Oh, yea Darius the Great…. a Med port would give Iran access to the European markets. Ya think the tussle for empires, has focused on access to the Med for thousands of years..? Greeks, Romans, Persian, Egyptians, Ottomans, … See how it works? With Iraq as a client state, Syria as an ally, … Iran would love a med seaport. Face it… Iran is looking for hegemony from the Gulf Coast to the Med… makes strategic and economic sense as much today as it did for at least a dozen civilizations. Look at the map,.. again. Italy, France, were Irans biggest oil customers… tanker around Africa or pipeline to Aleppo? Geography is not hard and the history of conflict is no harder. Iran absolutely intends to have Med acccess… see Lebanon, See Syria, See iraq and how much Iran has invested in taking over or using them as client states. Isreal stand stands in the way…they pushed the Iranian and Syrians out of Beirut and into the Bakaa…..
DPB… I don’t care if he the thinks the moon is made of green cheese.. Obama believes Rumpstilskin can spin paper into gold at the US Treasury and we can climb the magic bean stalk of 20 trillion in deficits to the goose that lays the golden egg. Take your pick…
And of couse Mr. Editor…. did you do some fact checking? Or fart out something you heard?
“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) takes no official position on whether or not biological evolution has occurred, or on the validity of the modern evolutionary synthesis as a scientific theory. However, in the 20th century, the LDS Church published doctrinal statements on the origin of man and creation. In addition, individual leaders of the LDS Church have expressed a variety of opinions on evolution, many of which have affected the beliefs and perceptions of Latter-day Saints.
Gosh… surprise surprise… you don’t know s— about the subject….
And what does the candidate say? and what has he done?
“I believe that God designed the universe and created the universe,” Mr. Romney said in an interview this week. “And I believe evolution is most likely the process he used to create the human body.”
He was asked: Is that intelligent design?
“I’m not exactly sure what is meant by intelligent design,” he said. “But I believe God is intelligent and I believe he designed the creation. And I believe he used the process of evolution to create the human body.”
While governor of Massachusetts, Mr. Romney opposed the teaching of intelligent design in science classes.
“In my opinion, the science class is where to teach evolution, or if there are other scientific thoughts that need to be discussed,” he said. “If we’re going to talk about more philosophical matters, like why it was created, and was there an intelligent designer behind it, that’s for the religion class or philosophy class or social studies
class.”
Gosh.. another lefty character attack… defend Obama’s economic record and thought… now that is a truly mythical creation… economic creationism. From overspending and massive deficits we can create prosperity. Some of the social and economic catechism of the left is more asinine that “intelligent design” it lacks both, intelligence and design.

NFiorentiniMemberJust as I was jonesing for a primo alternative-reality revisionist hyper-derp defense of Rmoney, Kootchman delivers!
Rmoney merely misspoke…Sir Magic Underwear meant access to the Mediterranean Sea! And Iran can only get that via a route to Syria that goes through Iraq. The Suez Canal doesn’t exist in this other dimension.
Thanks for the fix!
October 24, 2012 at 1:22 am #774970
kootchmanMemberThe Suez canal….which I actually transited, and participated in Operation Nimbus Moon and Star..(Ismalia and Bitters Lake) .. cannot transit super tankers… they are too big. The Suez canal was designed to transport British cargo ships to India. The current draft is 80 feet. The Batilius class super tanker draws 90 feet. The Suez canal is of no economic importance for a major oild exporter. And.. as politics of the region would have it.. Iran is a Persian, not Arabic country, and would never let Egypt control its economic destiny. The enmity between the two countries is long standing, throw in the Sunni/Shia animosity… the Arabs consider Shia muslims apostates. Gosh.. looks to me like the Med goes right to the Straits of Gibralter too! NF.. still going with the Democratic flow… now you have civics and history and engineering to study. Democrats .. 30 second sound bites will do when facts won’t fit the paradigm.
October 24, 2012 at 1:28 am #774971
kootchmanMemberHere’s your 30 second answer… from Ask.com
The Suez Canal can handle some supertankers, but others are too large. Others can unload their cargo into a canal-owned boat, and reload at the other end of the canal. The main alternative is to go around Cape of Good Hope which is the south of Africa. Ya make it so easy NF….
