Wondering if anyone has any insight into this: I have a parking spot behind my house just off the alley; there is a construction project across the alley and several times in the last few days, they have equipment blocking the alley for hours at a time. We live near the Junction, so there often is scant parking on the street in front, either. Just curious if anyone has advice on how to address? Just came home with a load of groceries and spent a bunch of time schlepping several loads a good ways back and forth from the car, so I’m hot and crabby. Maybe not such a big deal, in the grand scheme of things!

Pending anyone with direct experience – First, go to the construction office if you haven’t already (the sites all should have a trailer-type office on site), and ask to speak to a supervisor about your concerns. (If you can’t do this in person, you should be able to find a sign or online info listing who the general contractor is, and be able to contact them by phone.)

Construction conditions (noise, hours, etc.) are usually set or at least approved by the Department of Planning and Development, and that would be your next stop if you don’t get help by directly approaching the general contractor.

Also, alleys are generally public rights of way like streets, and you might able to ask SDOT – 206-684-SDOT – which would have to grant a permit for use of an alley or street in a way that restricts or blocks traffic more than fleetingly.

    good luck – TR
