blezjezMemberMy West Seattle cat sparks when I pet it in a dark room. This is due to static electricity. I am looking for other who know what I’m talking about. You may wonder how I figured this out — any of you who own cats know that they find you no matter what time of day, or night — when you go to the bathroom and sit down … cats love you most when you are sittin on a toilet for some reason — or reading the newspaper… any-who, I was up in the middle of the night tak’n care of business in the lu, when the cat comes in — it was pitch dark, but I pet the cat and it sparked , really fantastic sparks came off that cat, not just a little spark, but sparks on the entire length of the cat and tail…now I’m not trying to sound perverted, but I pet the cat faster and the sparks just went crazy… this I tried to recreate in the am so my husband could see the phenomenon too — he thought I was CRAZY when I told him what had happened in the middle of the night in the bathroom with the cat… weird, but true. My husband did not see the full effect but he did witness a bit of sparking, when I forced the cat into the bathroom for some petting and turned out all the lights.

MargLMemberYou’re not crazy ;-). The air is really dry this time of year from running the furnace and there are times when I can’t touch the cat without getting a static shock! I can hear the sparks when I scruffle her fur sometimes, too.

miwsParticipantNow we know what powers their little motors!
What would really be fun, is to eat Wint-O-Green Lifesavers, while petting kitty in the dark! ;-)

LeroniusmonkfishMemberI would comment on this but it would only lead to me getting myself banned from the WSB.

dawsonctParticipantYeah, the original post is rich with possible jokes.

My veterinarian friend tells me that static buildup while being petted is one of the reasons a seemingly perfectly content cat will suddenly turn on you.

austinMemberOnce my West Seattle cat was sleeping in my lap and she suddenly woke up and had to get to the ceiling, by way of my face. It hurt. Pooping in the dark creeps me out.

blezjezMemberI did not say I was “pooping”, I said I was taking care of business… I am a plumber. The post is rich with sexual innuendo? Sometimes a cat is … just a cat. Now if I had said something about disciplining my monkey in the lu, that would have deserved some closer speculation. Seriously, the cat sparks in the dark and if you don’t believe me, go and try it yourself.

LeroniusmonkfishMemberI used to own a Capuchin monkey but I never spanked him for his bad behavior. However, I did give him hard-boiled eggs for good behavior.

blezjezMemberWhat eggs-actly happened to little Capuchin?

LeroniusmonkfishMemberI think he went to work for Microsoft? I came home to a pretty much non-decipherable note but at the end of it there appeared to be an e-mail address @microsoft.com….

blezjezMemberOk, that is too funny.
