spanaMemberHelp WSB!
We are working on installing the car seat for our first child (due this month!). It’s proving difficult. We followed the directions to put the (giant) car seat into our (tiny) car, but it still seems to have too much give.
The word on the street is that fire departments are the places to go for child restraint inspections, but I’m not finding any info about that online. Does anyone have any experience getting installation help or an inspection or both?
Thanks!

CarolPBMemberI do believe you can stop by any fire station for help.

karenParticipantHere is a link you can use to find a location near you:
http://depts.washington.edu/booster/seat_checks.html
IKEA also hosts inspections on he last Wednesday of the month.
Children’s hospital is doing it on Oct 23.
Remember that not every car seat will fit properly in every car. Sometimes no matter what you do, it will not fit! So take your seat, the car you sill be using it in, and the manual to one of these inspections.

herongrrrlParticipantHighline Hospital also has carseat inspection clinics every month. Next one is 10/15: http://www.highlinemedicalcenter.org/calendar_detail.aspx?id=1499&page_id=88

ghar72ParticipantAnother link for you, with listings by city (only a few in Seattle proper):

Also, I’ve heard great things about Sue Emery. She comes to your house and all she asks for is a donation. I know that people have gotten together to make it worth her time and to give a pool of money, but I believe she’ll come and see just one person too. Her info (taken from the above site):
The Car Seat Lady
Seattle, WA 98124
Counties Served: King, Pierce, Snohomish
Hours: Please call to schedule an appointment.
Phone: 206-619-2871
Contact: Sue Emery
And one more thing, I was at Swedish Children’s Clinic in WS last month and they had a booklet (free) about proper installation of carseats/boosters. It was really good, with photos, which is so key. I know you want a person to look at the seat for you, but this could be a helpful resource as well.
Good luck, with the seat and new baby!

spanaMemberHey everyone! Thanks for the great links.
I just finished a visit with Wendy Thomas (http://www.wendytt.com/) and could not be happier. She came to my house within two days of my initial email and was super knowledgeable. I feel like Car Seat Expert Professor, PhD was here. It was FANTASTIC. And I am so glad she came because I got a lot more than just how to install my car seat. Tons of practical traveling with babies and kids information, including a number of things I hadn’t thought of but would definitely arise later on.
I highly recommend her! Best $25 I ever spent!
