HawkeyeParticipantWhat are the best outdoor stairs for fitness training in West Seattle? While I’ve found a couple of online maps, they don’t seem to necessarily give recommendations for what runners and hikers like best (riser height, tread depth, condition, etc.).
The sun today and coming longer days are inspiring me to get out and take a hike, would love to hear the secret stairs of other enthusiasts. So far in my limited search, I like the Carroll St. stairs (193 steps, fairly consistent risers and a terrific location).

WSBKeymasterWe have a map of West Seattle’s stairways around here somewhere.
The famous stairs not far from our HQ seem to be extremely popular, if somehow you haven’t tried them yet: Thistle/Northrop. They take you from Upper Fauntleroy/Gatewood all the way down to barely a block short of Lincoln Park. The first half or so is fairly steep, and then after they’re briefly interrupted by a dead-end street, you continue on a more gradual set the rest of the way down. – Tracy

CMPParticipantI second the Thistle staircase. It’s an excellent workout with variety between the upper and lower half, with 365 stairs total.

TammiWSMemberWe were on a mission this past spring to each week walk varied stairs throughout Seattle. It’s a great way to explore and see the city from a different viewpoint.
Here’s a link if you want to go beyond WS.

Betty TMemberIn case you’re still looking for stairs, We have a nice long set of about 3 levels in Highpoint that goes down to Long Fellow Creek towards Delridge. I believe they are on the map. A beautiful woodsy area.

wrenMemberHi all
Betty T could you tell me just where these stairs are. There are still part of West Seattle I don’t know well.
I am looking to get me and Samie out walking more that I am feeling better. After being sick for a couple of weeks my endurance is way down, so I would prefer steps or a walk that is very gradual to build my strength up again.

Betty TMemberI need to get name of the nearest street, have a friend lives close. It’s in an area in redeveloped Highpoint near 35th & morgan(Walgreens near there & U Haul lot. Its north and east. I’ll get directions from my friend tomorrow when we do lunch and return it here. OK? The 3 levels are nice so can rest a little. Only way this old gal can do it. It’s such a pleasant area particularly in summer.

Betty TMemberMy friend had an emergency yesterday so haven’t been able to get help help form her regarding directions.
It’s farther south than Juneau. Have to go to 35th ave sw & Morgan St, take a right, go about 2 blocks I think you follow Morgan where it takes to the left near the cemetery, where it becomes Sylvan Way going down hill. Follow Morgan east to Baton, turn left. Turn right into alley by new playground and it goes to the stairs. This is part of the the redeveloped area in High Point. A lot of people take that shortcut to go to Delridge to catch the bus.
