HalynParticipantHi all…
The water pressure in my house has dropped pretty dramatically in the last two days. I’ve checked for leaks, or for an outside faucet turned on and didn’t find anything like that. Does anyone have any other ideas? I wondered if there might be utility work going on that would temporarily reduce pressure. If you have any info, I’d really appreciate it. I like a shower stream strong enough that one has to exercise caution before stepping into it, and the lackluster performance I’m getting lately is ruining my mornings! :)
Thanks!

Jd seattleParticipantYou can call the water department and find out what the delivery pressure is for your address. If you still have the original galvinized steel water piping in your home or on the service line from your meter it may be a sign of your pipes failing. Is it the whole house having issues or just certain fixtures?

HalynParticipantBoth kitchen and bathroom fixtures have reduced pressure.
I have no idea what kind of pipe the house has-we’re renters. However, given the fact that my landlord never spends money on this house, I’m gonna guess that whatever was put in when the house was built in 1952 is still there.

Jd seattleParticipantIt’s most likely the plumbing system then. Not to say it couldn’t be the water department, but in my experience that is pretty rare. There are some tests that can be done to determine the cause but it takes a pressure gauge and knowing the proper steps to take and what to look for.

HalynParticipantThanks Jd..I’m gonna do some googling on the topic and talk to a friend with plumbing experience. I justjust wanted to rule out a city/service issue first.

Jd seattleParticipantNo problem, good luck!

HalynParticipantAnd my water pressure is suddenly back to normal, through no action of mine. Weird. No complaints though–I’m pretty happy to have my powerful-enough-to-pin-a-person-to-the-wall shower spray back!
