    Hi!
We’re moving and have a nice antique bedroom set that we can’t take with us. I’d like to donate it to charity, but need some advice on the best way to do it. It’s worth about $800 I think, so not too fancy, but too nice for a thrift store? We usually donate to northwest center, but would the irs take our word for the value since nwc doesn’t really write receipts? It’s not valuable enough to get appraised it seems, but do you think the value is correct? Please share some advice on the best way to donate this set. I have an ad on craigslist so you can see the photos. Thanks!

I don’t know if this is a route you’d want to go…maybe they can help with a receipt…and it wouldn’t be resold, it would actually go to someone who needs it.

I like that they make such an immediate direct impact for people. Sharehouse is pretty cool. They said they may sell nicer items if the money brought in would be of greater good, which makes sense. They didn’t have a better way for reporting the donation though. Thanks for pointing to them JanS!

You may try searching for charities that offer donation pickup service. There are directories online that will help you donate the bedroom set to Arc, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Northwest Center, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and Salvation Army.
