Metro Animal Services is a very small shelter in Puyallup, with almost no monetary resources. They have many cats and kittens up for adoption and no foster program.

If you are looking to adopt, please consider contacting them. Or maybe call to see if you can foster one of the pregnant cats. They have a very high euthanasia rate,so the animals there need all the help we can give.

Part of the reason they have a high euthanasia rate because they are allowing pregnant cats to give birth. It makes no sense to kill cats and kittens to allow pregnant ones to give birth. Let’s focus on the ones that are here already.

How many out there could see themselves watching a mother cat give birth and raise her babies (9 weeks gestation and then nine additional weeks of foster care), you helping with their care, only to send them back to a shelter to be killed because that shelter has a high euthanasia rate?

Oh my yes, and on top of that, how many potential homes do you think there are around here? If Kitty Harbor, FAF, and FCAT all have cats and kittens available for adoption (are there more in WS? there are plenty in Seattle), why would you want to send people to PUYALLUP instead?

All cats’ and kittens’ lives are equally important. Part of my hope was that some people and rescue groups might being able to assist.

Metro Animal Services has very little support and they need help. Plus, WSB is the #1 most read blog in the United States. Who knows, someone from their area may read this and go adopt.

I may or may not agree with terminating pregnancies–in this situation it’s a moot point for me. Metro is not terminating, therefore, the mother and babies need help too. There are people that foster mother cats and perhaps something good could come this posting–like more volunteers, a fostering program, kittens being adopted via the foster home. Just putting it out there for people that might interested in helping find alternatives to death.

When I posted this, I was also hoping it might generate some solution oriented conversation. I also knew it would cause negative comments from some people. We can agree to disagree.

    funkietoo,

Thank you for trying to get the word out about an obviously poor situation.

    Funkietoo,

Thanks for posting this – many of us know people that live in that part of Puget Sound, so getting the word out is a good idea. Maybe one more kitty gets a home, and that’s always a good thing.
