traffic volume are basically unchanged, 2008 fuel costs jacked up to more than $4/gallon that significantly reduced traffic and associated accidents. the basic indication is that the lower speed limit has resulted in an increase in accidents.
research (before and after speed limit changes) conducted by other professionals has consistently shown accidents tend to increase when the speed limit is not consistent to Traffic Engineering standards. the 30 MPH limit is not consistent to Traffic Engineering standards and the accident rate has gone up; albeit not significantly but up.
