“On a 50 to 3 vote, parents who voted chose LaVerne Elementary Preparatory Academy as the charter operator to take over the embattled Desert Trails Elementary School, which has been at the center of a bitter battle for the past nine months.
California’s Parent Empowerment Act of 2010, known as the parent trigger law, enables parents representing more than 50 percent of students to sign a petition to force major reforms on a low-performing school, from firing the principal and ha.. “
what this means is that the parents at one public school get to hire an outside charter firm to run their school.. and the rest of us get to pay for whatever it is that they want…
and it gets worse.. as Miws pointed out…. because of the way the law was written in California only those parents who signed the original petition asking for a charter school got to vote…. that 50% just gets smaller and smaller.
Is this really what you want for our schools …
An open ended opportunity for a small group of parents to take a school over and remake it in any fashion they choose … on your dime?
that’s what you get if you vote for the current charter school initiative…
