Unfortunately bamboo mites are endemic in bamboo in Seattle. Anonyme is right that they don’t like damp environments and hosing though out the dry season does slow them down, but when you have a stand 30 plus feet you can’t really accomplish the task. Forget the miticides as they are don’t really work and can be toxic depending on the kind (neem oil is the best alternative). Additionally, some bamboo is more affected than others. Black bamboo and its kin seems to be the most compromised. I just live with the mottled appearance as I am tired of fighting it. Also, if you have neighbors with bamboo who don’t treat for mites, you will never have success.
