More condos coming soon?

Just happened onto the “for sale” ad for the waterfront apartment building at 3633 Beach Drive. It touts “excellent high-end conversion opportunities.” (We have a memory of this building: a little-remembered windstorm in fall 1991 that caused some roof trouble, and other mayhem along that stretch of Beach Drive; the repair permit is still in city records.)

Wow…wierd to see this. I lived in apt #3 in that building a few years back. I remember the winter wind storms there. That roof always took the brunt of the south winds. It was a nice building then. I knew most of my neighbors and most everyone got along. Not the least bit surprised it’s going condo though. Every single apt building on the water will eventually. It’s just not ‘worth’ it to have waterfront property for rental units, unless they’re much more expensive than what Alki Properties tends to rent.

when last we drove by, we saw a sign that said something about “luxury residences now LEASING.” permit simply says 14 residential units over a ground-level business/retail/parking area.

Sorry, comment time is over.
