The mayor goes south

Don’t know if we’re ready for another community meeting till we truly recover from WSDPM, but this one could be good. Same location as WSDPM — The Hall at Fauntleroy. The Fauntleroy Community Association has enticed West Seattle’s Most Famous Politician to travel a few miles south from his Admiral home base to answer citizen questions at 6:30 pm March 1 (but will it be over in time for GA?). The FCA site asks that you e-mail questions, however, so we’ll have to get some clarity on whether there will be any actual audience open-mike time at this event. (We still have the same question we had two months ago — why was he virtually invisible when thousands of us were without power for days after the windstorm?)

As of last year you could get a tivo box for free and pay less than $20 a month for service (by signing up for a 1 year contract). It may be different now, but they always have some killer deal. You can then leave your house WHENEVER you want, for HOWEVER long. It doesn’t matter. Join us in the 21st century won’t you? It’s grand!

We don’t watch much tv anyway. That was a reference to our post last night about the streets seeming a lot emptier when certain shows are on, TiVo or no TiVo (the $100 Comcast soaks us for every month, half cable and half net access, is all the screen-time $ we wanna pay, thanx).

I had not read the post regarding the empty parking lot, but was more reacting to the low, but constant, levels of crankiness in the posts. I find the blog informative, but can do without the cooler than the rest of us attitude and complaints about how people aren’t crowding the grocery store lot or how many cupcakes you don’t want to see. What if you had been at Thriftway and had found NO available parking spots. What would you have posted about then? West Seattle is overcrowded, too many condos going up? These people should be home watching TV!

I have lived in WS for over 8 years; it’s a great place to live. I support my neighborhood businesses, use the parks, and accept that change is inevitable (not all of it is bad). You guys are a GREAT place to find info, but it doesn’t come without a price.

I’m just a kid looking for information on my neighborhood. I stated that I think the site has great information, with attitude. That’s all I’m saying. Not sure how that drops me into the victim realm.

thanks for the defense, House. we do “get” what V is saying, to a point, though “cooler than the rest of us” makes us laugh riotously because (especially if you met us in person) you couldn’t even remotely accuse us of being anything resembling cool. Attitude and opinions are what make this a blog versus a regular news site. We actually started it off as “just” opinions and observations, but realized West Seattle wasn’t getting enough area-specific info elsewhere, so we veered off into that. If we do decide someday to turn it into even more of a news site, the attitude/opinions would likely have to be separated off, kind of the way newspapers have opinion/editorial sections. But for now, we’re running it as a blog, so the straight info items will continue to be punctuated by odd observations, vents (we never did get around to posting the horrific “hang up and drive” moment we experienced on the way to work earlier this week, darn), pizza gripes (the most popular topic EVER on this site) … thanks to all for continuing to stop by! wsb

Commenting that local businesses might be less populated while a local-interest TV show is airing is an OBSERVATION.

Commenting that someone should “join us in the 21st century” because they don’t have a Tivo is ATTITUDE.

Comcast is a huge Monopoly. But TV/Cable programming really sucks and I won’t pay their prices for it except I can’t live without my Internet. I pay $61.95 a month just for my highspeed which is fast, and they suckered me into keeping my 2-29 channels. Other than that, I don’t have anything else on cable. Its ridiculous.

I’m hoping that WS Blog will cover the meeting with Mayor Gridlock (as he was referred to in a comment yesterday). I really enjoy reading WS Blog (including the humor and tone) and a blog is all opinion backed up with links that are hopefully somewhat factual. Keep up the great work!
