TRAFFIC ALERT: Crash closes West Marginal Way SW

6:51 PM: Thanks for the tips that a crash response is blocking West Marginal Way SW near the Duwamish Longhouse (4700 block). We don’t have details of the crash but we’d suggest avoiding the area for now.

7:50 PM: SDOT update via Twitter:

7:14 AM: As you can see from the comments, the road apparently remains closed – we’re off to see if we can find out why.

7:37 AM: City Light is still working right at the Duwamish Longhouse (4700 block W. Marginal Way SW) and we’ve verified, the road is indeed still closed at that point, both directions.

8:01 AM: Please see our daily traffic watch for continuing coverage of the closure, as repair work continues.

West Marginal Way still locked both ways at 9:48 pm. That must have been some crash.

When I tried to drive up from the high bridge it was still closed at 9:15. Told by police/parking unit that a pole was hit and snapped in half by a driver, then a second vehicle coming through snagged the power lines and dragged them.

City Light has to fix it all up.

Anyone know if it’s open? Have to make a wee hours run to the airport!

SDOT has not updated on Twitter in some time. We appreciate the updates – unable to get over there and check in person. The fire department call on this wasn’t open too long so it would seem the major factor in the closure was the repair, not the investigation/response…

As of 5:30AM 12/16/15 it is still closed. Going to be a messy commute from West Seattle.

Thanks. We’re covering in our traffic watch – https://westseattleblog.com/?p=332219 – there was absolutely no indication last night that it wouldn’t be fixed/reopened within a few hours as is usual for this type of thing, and even SDOT’s Traffic Information Center didn’t have accurate information; when we pinged them before our crew got there a while ago, they said all they had was that work might cause “northbound lane closures.” But we now have the photos to prove it’s closed both ways. Please let us know if you see it reopen … this is quite some ways from where we’re based and we won’t be able to go over frequently to check … TR

    Seriously, over 12 hours?

    • WSB December 16, 2015 (8:56 am)

Thanks for the updates. I’m checking with City Light re: the duration.

Someone in our office talked with a driver stuck in the two way turn lane in front of our building. That driver said he’d gone up to the scene and spoke with someone who said 2PM. Second hand info, so take it with a grain of salt.

The semis aren’t having an easy time getting turned around.

  • Gelmut Nayberger December 16, 2015 (9:22 am)

Our truck was just turned around as road is still closed.
